Default Chevy C10, LS1/T56 build

Ive been on this site for a while and have sold some stuff in here, so I figured I could at least post my Chevy truck project.

I have a build thread over on gmsquarebody.com, http://www.gmsquarebody.com/forum/sh...ad.php?t=10021 but I figured I might as well have one on here also. Who knows, it might help someone doing the same swap.

Here was my first post back in 2014.....

Details:
SWB, Original Brown paint, original tan/brown interior, 103K on the 4.3, manual brakes & Steering, and the coolest part, 3 on the tree! It has the usual corner rot, but everything else, solid. There are quite a few road dings, but hell, Im not worried about those!

My Plan:
-Tune up. Not sure when it was last done, but she needs it! Runs and drives ok, but just seems down on power. AC blows cold so thats a bonus!

-Brake job. I hit em hard and I had one wheel lock up and it took a bit to stop.

-Radio. The stock, Cassette am/fm is toast, so its time for a modern stereo.

-Body work & paint. Hell no!

-Suspension. 4/6 drop

-Rims/tires. Stock steels widened and keeping the hubcaps!

-Exhaust. The CAT feel off, so Ill need to replace it with a Hi-Flow "Test" pipe.

Of course my step-daughter wants to drive it, eventhough she cant drive a manual...Hell, my whole neighborhood wants to drive it! You think I brought home a Limo or something as everyone was loving on it!

Anyway, here is a pic from yesterday when I picked it up. Ill get some more when I get home and start tearing into it.

After driving the truck for awhile, it just kept having issues, so thats when I decided to do the swap.

Well, I found a T56 out of an 6 GTO and made the drive to Indiana to pick it up.

This was the first LS engine I was going to use...
Instead of throwing more money at my truck trying to keep what it has running. I figure its time to remove the 4.3/3 speed and start my LQ/T56 swap.

I have been gathering parts and Ill post as I go.

Here are some new pics.....

Somewhere in the 2 years, I decided to put the LQ in my Chevy II. So I was always looking for another LQ or LS for the truck.
I finally came across a recently rebuilt LS1 that had a bad lifter. We went through it and everything looked good. I still needed a set of heads, so I fouund a set of 317s. I had the guys at BES cut down some LS3 intake valves, install those after they CNC'd the castings. We did a clean mill on the surface, as I came across a STUPID, SMOKING DEAL on a SC.

Dude came in selling a "Whipple" SC. He said he was paid to pull the blown up eng in a customers Humvee. Cust said F that SC!!
So we walk out to his truck and there is a Magnuson SC. I told him, dude thats just a Maggie, Not a Whipple. He asked me if it was worth scrap money. I told him I would give him $50 for it. He jumped at it!!

Best $50 I ever spent!!

The cooler, will hold an aluminum, 7 gallon water tank which will be a reservoir for my superchargers intercooler, I will run lines under the truck, up to the heat exchanger, then into the IC.

Ran into a snag last night while working on the IC reservoir...

This is where I started.

Set the tank in and marked where I needed to drill and then busted out the hole saw bit.

Hopefully, I can run a tap through them and get my threads back. If not, hopefully my welding guy, Jason, can get new bungs welded on.

On a positive note, I did get my tank removed so I could switch out pumps.

I got the "battery box" mounted up as well and feed grommets installed.

I need to make a 2" wide hold down bracket and then get it mounted.

I also got the Intercooler reservoir mounted and -10 lines run.

I messed up and forgot to mount a drain pep-**** before I installed the tank. Im not sure if I have the clearance to install one now that the tank is mounted. Ill do some more measuring and hopefully one will fit. Worst case, I make one up front somewhere.

Not happy with the way Vintage ran the lines. I understand it will clear the wheel wells, but Im going to call them and see if I can route them differently.

Im so glad I made this work bench mobile. Maybe the Sears casters roll a bit too good, but its nice to be able to move it around.
