relocating T56 shifter forward
I need to relocated the shifter from my 04 GTO pull out.
They placed it very far back on the new GTO's about 6 inches farther back then on the Camero's

I believe you can unbolt the GTO shifter mechanism in its entirety and toss it in the garbage, then bolt an F-body shifter in its place. I think the whole cobbled together GTO "linkage" unbolts in one piece, revealing the plain old F-body rectangular opening underneath.

If the "take the GTO stuff off" solution (which seems the cheapest and easiest) doesn't pan out, you might check with Keisler. They are a big distributor of T56 stuff and have like 9 different shifter mounting locations for the T56.
Don't know if they've got a solution for you, but they're more likely than anybody else I can think of.

the F-body shifter has to be slightly modified, but the dude Striped04 in that thread performs the mod for $50. I belive all he does is machine some sort of adapter plate.

can I get some more concensus on the F-body shifter being a direct bolt on. When takiing the gto shifting linkage out of there.
This combo is going in my 66 nova and with the stock location the shifter is lined up with my hip.
This mod will put it about mid thigh, not ideal but much better.
If they are the same cases I don't see why not.

Read those threads. It works, 100%. The shifter mod is required for the use of an F-body shifter in a GTO. Since you're using a custom application, just swap the shifter base in and you're done. I guess if you wanted to move it even further forward you could get the modded GTO handle and reverse it, thereby moving the shifter forward a few inches.
