If you move the firewall back two or three inches it will fit up front. The real problem is the rear end. The car isn't built for any kind of rear, and nobody makes one that will work. So all in all it will take $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$..

I have seen pro stock and modified production Chevettes with SBC and BBC. Don't recall any street cars, but that doesn't mean they don't exist. Bassically required building a whole tube frame inside and under the Chevette Body. If you have one, the body itself would be the least of your challenges. To each his own, but if I was going to that much work I think I would find something that did not look so much like....like a Chevette!

Default ...yeah, here is a Chevette!

My Dad (now in his 80s and a pioneer Hot Rodder) once told me that any engine swap was possible if you had enough angle iron and a good Lincoln 200 amp stick welder. Here is that proof, a blown Cadillac powered Chevette. One can only hope it isn't street driven anymore.

When I was a younger I wanted to put a SBC in a chevette clean it up a bit and call it a Chevette SS. But then I found out how much work was involved. Not worth it for what you get in the end.

Yup, Cadillac distributor is in the front, could be hidden by the blower, but I think I see it back in the cowl.

What none of you remember the Hot Rod bad seed chevette they put a 500 caddy in it and ran 12`s. The axle can be a nearly bolt in solution, they used a mustang II rear axle. I don`t know if it would be worth puttin a LS1 in, I would much rather put one in a vega. But someone makes a swap kit to put a 3.8L buick in, time for a Grand national engine chevette

Default Why not?

I have seen several traditional sbc's in chevettes. It an easy swap, and the little turd is RWD so it's a good platform to start with, better than some of the other ideas on here L0L. As compact at the LSX based engine is, i think it would be easier than most believe. Have *****, be different, go for it!
A blown LS1 in a ugly little grocery getter like that would be one heck of a sleeper......gotta figure how to make it hook though...............

Default My LS1 Chevette

I've been working on one since 2008. Just recently back to seriously working on it (life keeps getting in the way) 2002 LS1 from a Ram Air Ta with 54,000 miles on it, auto, Dana 44 3.73 posi out of a Postal jeep, Moser axles, NX express wet kit, 4 corner air ride with auto ride height controller (accuair) Everthing fits nicly under the stock flat hood. Going to do some more welding in the radiator mount tonight. Looks like i might be able to squeeze A/C on it also. My goal is to have it pretty stock looking on the outside so if it won't fit under the hood I will leave the A/C off it.

Talking

I also have one in the project status. 1986 2dr Chevette CS. Jegster 12pt cage and a milder version (600whp) of my 6.0L from last year. That setup went 10.20's @ 133 in a 4255lb car. The Turbo 'Vette should be at least 1500lbs lighter race weight. Should be a fun street car. Hope to have complete in 2014.
