Air intake plumbing. How will this work?

Default Air intake plumbing. How will this work?

I need a filter and don't want to spend $300 for an elbow and filter from S&P. I have a 4" stainless elbow. How will this work?
The 4" elbow up to the throttle body.
At the other end, the mass air flow then a filter.
Couple it all together with silicone hump hose couplers (see link)
What filter will work good with this?
Will the mass air work ok at the filter end or does it need to be at the throttle body? It will all fit better that way.

here is mine, look on K&N's site (or your filter of choice) for measurements of part numbers to fit your application.

Should work fine from the sounds of it. Mine is built in a similar manner, though my intake is in the fenderwell.

Hey, look into the spectre intakes, I've built two. One for my tbi and one for my new 6.0 conversion.

One concern about S&P setups and any filter that comes straight off the throttle body and stops, is you will be pulling hot air from behind the radiator which is far from ideal.

The one they priced me is an elbow and filter off to the side. The $300 is just an elbow and filter using my MAF. We did talk about the one you are describing. They (S&P) said they tested it on the dyno and it cost 40 horsepower over the elbow filter.

One of the problems I found on my own car was the high intake air temperature when drawing air from the engine compartment. It took some careful study and then simple fabrication to get cooler air from outside of the engine bay. I really had a battle with detonation and timing curves until I got some cool air into my air box. These K & N filters that are right on the throttle body/MAF sensor cost tons of performance.

Alright I got it all laid out and it looks like it will work and look good. But the stainless is heavy. Then you add the maf and filter out on the end and that end is heavy. I assume that end needs to be secured to the motor so it will be strong and it will move with the motor. Is this correct? How are you guys securing this end?
