ls1 swap on 86 V6 camaro questions
theres a guy down the street form me selling a 86 camaro for 1500 bucks. i spoke with him and seen it, interior needs work but the body is straight with no rust. i was wondering what all would be involved with swapping its v6 engine with a ls1. do they sell custom wiring kits already for this specific swap or would i have to have one made and what other things might i run into? thanks fellas

There is a pretty large market for dropping an LS1 into a thirdgen F body. You'll need mounts, headers and a harness. Not much diffrent than dropping and LS1 into any other car that didnt come with one originally. Over on TGO.com there is an entire section dedicated to swapping LSx engines into F body's.

only thing that really scares me with this project is the electrical part of it. i know nothing about wiring it up to get everything working. is tehre a shop that could probably do this for me or sponsor?

i would look at spohn.net for the mounts and speartech or painless for a done wiring system. I hacked a stock one to pieces to get it to work on my setup, but that's just because I'm a cheap ***.
v6 to v8, there isn't a lot of difference other than quality of suspension if i remember right, but if you're doing all this work, you'd probably be swapping most of that **** out, right ? =D if anything the v6 springs would be to your advantage because the motor wouldn't lift the front end (v8 to ls1 swaps have to use 1" drop springs because of the weight difference in the front end)

I'm dropping in a Ls1 in my 92 Z28. Ites really not a bad swap. I went with a tube K-member and spohn mounts. Get a wiring diagram and its not to bad. Just splicing in to the body harness(speedometer, tach.service engine soon, ecm power ect. So far exaust has been the hardest. But this is my first time doing the exaust. I'd say go for it.

i went and checked out the car today, only has one spot of rust on the door. about the size of a quarter. interior is in good shape. about a 7 out of 10. the head cover gasket is leaking i believe. kind of hard to tell but thats all that really seems wrong with it. drives well. my only worry about buying this car is that i will have problems finding parts for it. what parts may be hard to find for the conversion? or are all the parts readily available from sponsors or other sites?

Dude you will not have a hard time finding parts for it. I have a Monte SS and finiding parts for it are pretty easy considering it isnt as popular as the thirdgen F-body's. There are a ton of vendors who readily supply parts for these cars. Check out SPOHN for the swap parts.
