5.3 or 6.0 swap
i have been searching alot and am not finding the information i need. First off i plan on turboing the engine with a large cam and ported heads and most lekely forged pistons. is it worth it to go after the 6.0 over the 5.3 also what would you have to change to make either of these fit into a 00 firebird that had a six cylinder in it. i will be keeping my auto 4l60e trans beind it and plan on just buying the tubular k member built for v8's with extra clearance for turbo. any information is helpful

I kind of agree... to a point. Really depends on your budget. I got my 5.3 for $292 shipped with 70k miles. I couldn't find a 6 liter for less than a grand. And honestly Ive seen a z06 cammed 5.3 put out 326whp on here which is pretty strong!

i made more than that from my v6 the 4l60 is not stock at all and has seen 20psi outta my v6 without issues. i am looking for 600 to 700 wheel horsepower i think the 6.0 is a little more of a instant cost but the investment will pay off in the long run. when you look at a total picture of this swap of probably 5k extran 800 is not too much to ask for i suppose but if the 5.3 handles boost better or any other reason to choose it over the 6.0 i would like to hear the reasoning. if i did 6.0 what would have to be changed to make it bolt in besides driveshaft bellhousing and k member oh and torque converter

Its from an 01 silverado 1500, pretty sure its an LM7 dont quote me on it, its been sitting in the garage for a while. Got it from LKQ.
Parrish's motor in the turbo turd is a junkyard motor they had sitting in the corner of the shop. Runs pretty damn strong, I'm sure he'll chime in sooner or later.

correct me if im wrong but according to a gm source the 6.0l is nothing but a 5.3 bored over to 4'' it uses the same crank as the lq4. an other L series engines.
U could just buy a 5.3 bore it to 6.0l

lol well i have way too much into it already and i hate to be swallowed by the money pit again but it will probably happen i am probably just going to go with the 5.3 and just build it to run higher boost and rpm to equate the cost of the 6.0 but yea this hobby is rough for a 21 year old college student

so if i went 6.0 route do i still have to change out the oil pan and intake manifold or do those fit and something else needed to be changed. five hundred for a motor and another six for these parts gets me close to just getting the 6.0
