Default ls1......in a 240sx

i am going to be starting an ls1 swap into a 240 as soon as i gather the parts that i need. i have a friend that works for a race shop called import intellegance based out of west chester pa. they do all differnat kinds of swaps into 240sx, so most of the fabrication and wireing shouldnt be an issue. what i was wondering if any one has any experience with this swap or can point me in the right direction to sum that does. also if any one knows of any full swaps that are for sale (engine, m6, ecu, harness) please let me know. thanks for your time

Default Why???

Why would you ruin the balance of that car by putting a boat anchor in the front of it? (Do you remember the infamous 5.0 into Miata swaps?) Great tire fryer...

PUT A 20DET in it (if your buds with an import guy get a Jap spec bluebird)

You can have a better hp/weight ratio for about the same bucks and a LOT less pain in the ***...

My buddy built one for a customer (240/ls1) and it was not as cool as you'd think it would be.

Real neat car to look at but handled a little weird.

Just my .02... Good luck on your swap!

An sr20det weighs more than an ls1.. dont even go there.

The balance of the car would actually be better with the ls1 unlike the 5.0 miata swap which did make them nose heavy.

i looked into it and found that with tranny the sr20det was 490lbs and ls1s are very close to that. though the internet does lie and if someone knows the real numbers then prove me wrong.

silviaV8performance is a great site. many people go the sr route and then get an ls. a mild ls is good for 450hp to 500 and an sr is a pain in the *** at those numbers. both are nice swaps and both have a good aftermarket. the ls will have a higher initial cost but it is a bit more relaible from what i have read. i am going to be doing the ls swap this winter hopefully the funds can keep up.

from what i have read it isnt that much of a differnce in weight

Our LS1/T56 with A/C, PS, waterpump, Alternator, Wiring harness and engine mounts weighed 603lbs: 260lbs on each engine mount, 83lbs on tranny mount (we weighed it on 3 scales) see:

Ls1 is easier to get parts for. The corner auto parts store doesn't stock water pumps for the SR20det. If it breaks in BFE you might be in trouble.

to clear it up again.

copy and paste from my 2 year old post.

i put the car on the scale today. was alittle heavier then i was hoping but the front/rear %'s was pretty nice. alittle info first so you will know what was on the scale. the car is a stock 95 240sx se (loaded but with no sun roof). ls1, t56, j30 rear end, steel drive shaft, no a/c compressor, no a/c coil, no heater coil, no fan (for heat,a/c) fake glove box (just the cover is on, almost everything was taken out under the dash), long tube headers to 3" to y-pipe to 3.5" to a bullet style muffer,5/8 of a tank of gas. battery in the trunk and a empty no2 bottle. the only thing in the car that didnt need to be there was my lunch box (i gotta eat) and every fluid a car would need and a few little misc things. if my math is right the front/rear % is, front=53.42%, rear=46.58%. front is 1560, rear is 1360, total is 2920. take out the misc stuff and it will put it right back to stock weight, 2880. maybe will answer a few peoples questions about weight.
i have since removed a few more things and got it down to 2840-2860. but the most of that was from the rear and the %'s are alittle different now.

only thing different as far as handleing is the power steering. it is alittle jerky cause the power steering pump is alittle to big (so i was told). if you move the steering wheel you are turning. but after you get use to it just feel like a very sharp steering response.

as far as the balance issue... haha im not to worryed im not building sumthing that nneds perfect balance, besides there are more then a few guys who drift ls1 powered 240s and they tear the course up. i emailed 417 motorsports today to get sum more info, they seem like the guys to talk to. i just pickd up the 240 the other day. its a hatch back : ( i would much rather have used a coupe but this car has no rust and came to me cheap. oh and by the way the stock ka24 engine that would have been in my 240 weighs almost exactly the same as an ls1 so weight which goes alone with what fouz65 post says

welcome young noob, this is a dead horse as you can see from links to the "other" forum. BUT, if you want to REALLY see how this is done(guessing you have a s13) and done right on a CRAZY budget. Check out this thread
https://ls1tech.com/forums/showthrea...=1#post9954572
Build is SUPER budget, but doesn't cut corners. You can add or subtract anything you want. Iron 6.0L are getting cheap, could go with ls1/t56 combo. But the 5.3L and 4l60e is REALLY CHEAP now days.About 1 million motor/trans combo's. Just do your homework. Schools in session

The T56 is heavy.. but if you really need to watch the weight you can get a TKO 500 which is about the same weight as a T5.. doesnt get much lighter than that when it comes to a performance tranny.

you are an absolute idiot, and have no idea what you are talking about.

if your friends shop built one that handled "weird", they did it wrong, or the car was improperly set up.

the weight balance change is negligible and will not change the handling of the car. the only people who say it will, are people like you with no FIRST HAND EXPERIENCE with the swap.

the fact you even mentioned a bluebird engine shows you know absolutely nothing about the car. bluebird SR20 motors are FWD engines.

im definitely watching every 240 swap, as im thinking about doing one myself. the weight issue is nill, ive seen different weights comparing the stock ka motor in the 240, the general consensus is that its about the say or even a bit heavier than the ls1!! im thinking about a 5.3 setup, yes its iron and yes it may be a bit heavier but its nothing a set of stiffer front springs and moving the battery to the trunk shouldnt be able to remedy.

You're right, that's almost as stupid as an LS1 RX7.

Dude your in the wrong forum, this is LS1 TECH not 20DET tech. Everyone is going to put a LSX in whatever they drive on this forum, thats why its LS1tech.com.
