Default Anyone here educate me on a turbo ecotec?

Or is there a conversion forum for these guys? I need to run 87 and I know these do - I'm curious about price and weight of the Eco versus a LS1 (I was actually thinking 5.3, but whatever).

Anyway, I read an interesting article on these engines and it seems like it would be a great little engine to work on and with. I know the output would be less than an LS1, but I don't need a ton of HP in a 3000lb car, I just want reliability, fuel economy, and a little zoom zoom. Maybe I should just buy a f'n HHR SS. I'd be in with AWD. Ah well.

No comparison at all between these two, but you probably know that.

It's going to be tough to find a RWD turbo platform as I only know of the Sky Redline and Solstice GXP running that configuration right now. Any other cars?

I think I'd start on a forum for a car that has the engine in it that you want to use.

Try J-body.org, they've been boosting those Ecotec's for years now.

As for an AWD HHR SS, its not going to happen. FWD only.

I love my 2008 HHR SS, it runs really hard, even on the 87 I dump in it. It runs a little stronger on 92 octane fuel. If I want to really kick-*** I still love my LS powered old sedan though.........and my LS powered sedan gets BETTER fuel economy than my turbocharged HHR SS!!!!

LS1 will make more power on 87. Small engine turbo cars need high octane to run well. For budget a 5.3 truck motor is the ticket.

My Sky redline (2.0L turbo ecotec) is doing about 350 at the crank, and about 380 lb/ft with only a few mods. The 2.0L was designed oversquare and actually develops killer torque. Its a very stout motor also. In stock form (260 hp, 260 lb/ft) in runs fine on 87 octane.

I just completed the GM factory "upgrade" on my HHR SS..........I think it will outrun my LS1 powered hot rod now..........I better get the "big motor" finished and installed, I can't have my little turbo commuter car running quicker than my real hot rod.
