Fuel Pumps?

Fuel Pumps?
I'm swapping an LS-1 into my 71 cutlass. I've looked through the topics but haven't seen anyone talk about what type of fuel pumps to use. I know you have to have 60 psi of pressure. Would and electric fuel pump work and just mount it on the frame? Help me out please

I like Stealth71 is using a Impala tank with a Walbro 255 pump, connected to a 99+ Vettet FPR.
These 94-96 Impala tanks will fit in you frame without too much work.. a small trim (1/4") on each frame rail and moding the straps to secure the tank. The Fuel level sender should also work with your Stock Cutlass gauge as they are the same ohm rate. another plus is that you get a few extra gallon of fuel.
One of the main concerns of a High Pressure EFI system is fuel starvation on stopping, turning and acceleration !.. If the stock tank is not setup with baffles and a sump you might need to keep at lease 1/4 of fuel all of the time, else you rise leaning out the system when the pickup come out of the fuel as it is moving around. The Impala has both a bucket and some baffles.
Using a external pump can be noise and service life many be short. Get a good one if your going that route.
Many who have used external pump will add a weld on sump (Competition Engineering markest one) to the bottom of the tank. This works ok, but one word of warning.. having the fuel pickup exposed might be considered illegal in some area and the Cops many use it to stop and give you a ticket for it.
let us know what you come up with.

+1 for the Impala tank set up. You will need to cut an access thru your trunk floor though. This already came in handy as I already went thru one Walbro.
I bought a replacement that I think is a Bosch. I'm now having starving problems when below 1/2 tank. I'll have to see if the set-up is higher off the tank bottom than with the Walbro...

Another options not mentioned is to get one of the tanksinc in tank pump setups. Basicly you cut a 4" hole in the top of your tank and put an in tank pump in that has its on bucket it sits in to prevent starvation. That is what I have used and so far (limited driving) it has worked well. I would say for your money the Spectre tank is by far the best since it should work great and looks stock. However if cost is an issue the impala swap is tough to beat cuz they can be had for cheap.
