Did they all have the boot that goes over the top when its down when they were new?? I have 2 Z28 'verts and neither one ever had a boot.. of coarse I bought them used, so I was wondering if it's just that previous owners that bought them new may have the boots just laying around

I'm sure they all came with the boot covers. Mine did. That would be a strange 'option' to have to pay for. My window sticker doesn't even mention it.
Many owners just set them aside and then forget about them when the car is sold. Sometimes owners don't include them in the sale on purpose hoping to pick up another few hundred dollars selling them on ebay or wherever. That's kinda mean spirited IMO. I wouldn't do that to whoever buys my 'vert one day.

Ours didn't have one when we bought it last spring, we bought one local for cheap soon there after though. It's a nice finishing touch for when driving down the road with the top down.

New f-bod 'verts absolutely did come w/ the 3-piece boot from the factory, along w/ the zippered storage "pouch". I even got the center section of mine replaced once under warranty in the first year after one of the glued seams came apart. It seems quite common for used 'verts to not have them due to either loss, damage or theft over the intervening years of multiple owners.

my boot came with a piece of rubber molding that goes on the rear of the boot where it would be touching the paint. was this a standard factory piece?

The top on my car is down 95% of the time with the cover in place. The car just does not look as nice without the cover. IMO

Agreed, it adds a lot to the looks. I do like how the 5th gen top folds down - looks much cleaner than the 4th gen when the tonneaus are off.

Mine didn't come with one when I purchased it used in 2012. I've been trying to finagle one cheap for like 18 months. Finally snagged an allegedly mint one off a '95 bird from Ebay. $285 shipped. It's on it's way now.

Way more than I wanted to pay for 3 pieces of plastic, but not like aftermarket is an option. Overall, from what I have seen, this was a good price.
