c5 zo6 or c6 base model ls2?
So in the next couple months I will be on the look out for a vette. I was wondering which one most of you think I should go with. Around where I live both the cars are priced very close to each other maybe the c6 is 2k more but not a huge price differnce. So which one should I go with looks is not a factor becuase I like the looks of both. Is the parts in one or the other superior over the other. Just put yourself in my place which one would you buy and why? Also is the c6 chassis lighter? I would like to have a 450-475wheel hp heads and cam car.
IM ALSO NEW TO THE COVETTE THING THATS WHY IM ASKING HERE.
O and dont suggest me buying a ls3 vette because if im gonna spend that much I will just buy a c6 zo6.

This has been discussed a few times, I'd search too.
I'm in the same boat as you. Gonna be in the market soon, I drove both a '03 ZO6 and a '06 LS2. Both were manuals. The newer car has a nicer interior for sure, BUT the ZO6 just felt better, more responsive. It had more low end grunt and is better set-up for the track. I always have loved the FRC look of the C5 Z, the new C6 is nice, but I'm so used to seeing wide-body C6 Z's that the base C6's dare I say look "weak" to me.
So with that being said, I'm looking for a '02-'04 ZO6, not a '05-'06 C6.

The C6 with the Z51 suspension is equal to the stock C5 Z06 @ the track.
Parts are cheaper & more easily available for the C-5.
The C6 is more "refined" but
A C-5 Z06 is... NOISY MEAN & NASTY
a very fun ride.
Make sure you get the Z51 suspension if you're going with a C6.

I like both cars too. But I think, when I'm out of college here in the next year, I'll probably just get a modded c5z w/ some sweet power and save some good money. They run in the 20-30k range in Chicago.

I'd drive them, I did. The LS6 has 405, the LS2 has 400. The LS6 felt "better" to me, more low end grunt and it sounded better too. The LS6 in the ZO6 is a lighter set-up too. So it will be a little quicker.

I'll chime in since I'm in the market too!! I just came from playing the modification game and that is what I don't want to do anymore.....or at least not much anymore.
I drove a GT500, C6, 911 Turbo, C5 Z06, C6 Z06 over the last month and I know this is just a C6 vs C5Z discussion but
For me the choice was easy C6 Z06 used I know that wasn't in your price range, but here is my rationale. I have learned that you have to love your car when your not driving fast the way it looks, feels, the interior, if not the mod bug bites hard and you find yourself constantly trying to make it faster, faster, faster and now you have a race car. Which would have been much cheaper to buy in the first place then do yourself.
The C5Z is a great track car, but the interior is very dated and that drove me nuts. It was a 100% deal killer for me.
The C6 looks and feels plain for 30K+ used, but with some rims, exterior accessories, and blower or cam/bolt on package I would like it.
The C6Z looks awesome beauty is in the details they look mean, are fast as hell stock, tractable, relatively rare, and I don't have to worry as much about modding since they are 11 sec 125+mph cars stock.
When it come to price I'd rather have a larger note and be done then constantly wanting to tinker because there are always things that erk me about the car. Both the C6 and C5 would do that to me.
Good luck!!

Just buy my car guys... its for sale. The C5Z is one of the best bang for your buck cars on the market right now. Hard to find many cars that can compare to the Z06 for the price.

The c5-z is faster, the ls2 c6 has a milder tune on it from the factory, ( more torque management and traction control dialed into it to make it slower than the c5-z, but a tune and modes would fix that.
