Lookin into gettin a c5
So i am currently parting with my 87 IROC that has a turbo built 370ls, th400 and 9 inch to get something i can enjoy more.
So a c5 seems like the perfect car!
What are the differnces between the 97-04s, do i wanna stay away from 97-98s since they were the first years?
I would like to get a hard top or an frc or z06. My only standards are hard top/ targa and a t56.
I have read the list of common issues with c5s but none of them explain much about the differences through the years on the drivetrain.
I would like to make it a heads, baby cam, intake and exhaust ar then eventually down the road look into boosting it.
Are the rear ends in vettes pretty strong? How much power can they usually withstand?
Thanks
Jay

I wouldn't hesitate ever again about what I did... buy one that is already modded the way you want.... you'll avoid the "corvette tax" and end up not paying much more for it than if it were stock.....
I sold my Twin-Turbo Trans Am and had to take a major loss to sell it (i was building my home)... so when i bougth my vette, i knew i wanted to get something that was already modded and something i wouldn't loose my a$$ on again if i had to sell it...
I couldnt' be happier

That thread covers the differences fairly well.
As far as what C5 to get, long story short if you plan to heavily mod it: Z51 coupe or FRC. If you want to buy it and just drive it then a Z06 is well worth it.

Well, if you're in the southern Cali area, my friend is selling his 04 Z06 (Commemorative Edition). It's in great shape inside and out and 100% stock.
Personally, I prefer buying stock cars because you have a better chance of getting a car that wasn't totally beaten on.
Although, on the other hand, a lot of people that mod their cars also know how to take care of them. I'm just a fan of stock with low miles. Then you know for sure it wasn't beat up.
I got my 02Z with 28K miles on it, and my 03Z with 19K miles on it. It's amazing what 10K miles different feels like.

Sadly I live in canada, I border Detroit. I will be however going to the states to buy a vette for sure. I notice texas seems to have vettes listed for very cheap. Alot of the nicer ones Ive seen are in Cali, nice thing about that is I have a buddy that moved out there (his company Fisker automotive) moved there and he went. So if I do find one near his area I could always take a plane there and drive the car home.
