first time at the track in the new vette.....
Im a little dissapointed I even threw out the slips. I have a 02 z06 30k miles w/ breathless performance headers,x-pipe(no cats) corsa exhaust cai and tuning. 393rwhp best mph i could pull was a 12.4 @118.2mph w/ 2.2 60ft. i did pull a 1.9 60ft and my time was a 12.2 @ 117mph. shouldnt i be easy 11's? The temp was around 80degrees with decent humidity (palm beach fl). I am wheelhopping like crazy on the 1-2 shift is this hurting my times? well any input is greatly appreciated. BTW i was driving in competition mode. thanks.

I understand you are disappointed but it doesn't sound too bad to me considering the weather conditions, your 60' times, and the fact that you are spinning.
The best I could do with my stock 02 (F1's and all) is 12.6@114 with the same weather conditions. With better traction you should hit 11's and with cooler temps you will be solid in the 11's.

I agree with Wide Open. I definitely can relate to the temps out at Moroso (assume you are also local since you mentioned PB). The temp doesn't seem to be getting cooler either. I would not sweat it (no pun intended) and you should be in the 11s no problem with some new rubber.

You need to get rid of the wheelhop asap, which will help to keep the drivetrain in one piece. Stickier tires normally will do the job, plus your 1/4 times will drop considerably. Bob

As for wheel hop - that's the quickest way to break something expensive.
If you are going to drag race with a stick car you really should invest $400 in a DTE differential strut brace. The purpose of the brace is to protect the differential when you take out the transmission (which is very easy to do when you hop).
Good luck,

A tendency to wheel hop is inherent in the suspension geometry of C5/C6 Corvettes. The way to eliminate it is under the driver's control.
(1) modulate the throttle by squeezing rather than stabbing it. This is true on the 1-2 shift also.
(2) at the drag strip, drop the stock rear tires to 26-28 psi (hot) adjusted right before each pass. It also helps to heat them with a burnout. Or you can run DRs at proper track psi (18-22 depending on brand and track conditions).
Regarding max acceleration techniques to get you into the 11s, you might want to read through the tips and commentary at my site. Some links to get you started are in my signature. It takes proper technique and seat time to find your natural lower ET limit. With your horse power, the car component is there to drop well into the 11s in FL. But doing so will take some work improving the driving component.
Good luck.

Are you powershifting from 1-2? I have the same problem when I powershift from 1-2 and have lost considerable et because of it. Drive it in the same manner again the next time you go, just partially ease off the throttle on the 1-2 shift to avoid the wheelhop and 11's shouldn't be a problem. just my .02 from personal experience.

what would my C5 hit with mods in my sig? Should i be into the 12's by chance? With the 100 shot going in i should be dipping into the LOW 12's high 11's i'd guess Like said before, eliminate the wheel hop as it's a BAD thing I broke a couple things in my Z28 because of wheel hop. Put some LCA's and Panhard bar in and i was golden. No more spinning OR wheel hop. I do know the Vette's a different but it still breaks stuff on a high horsepower car like these.
