Whats faster? 2002 C5Z06 or gen 2 viper
Heres a list a found floating around on viper alley
GEN 2 stock times:
11.77 @ 120 mph ; Viper RT/10 => High Performance Mopar Magazine Fall/2000
11.97 @ 118.88 mph ; Viper GTS => Popular Mechanics Magazine August/1997
11.98 @ 117.7 mph ; Viper GTS => GM High-Tech Performance Magazine January/2002
12.08 @ 118.51 mph ; Viper RT/10 => Popular Mechanics Magazine July/1999
12.1 @ 121 mph ; Viper ACR => MotorWeek /2000
12.1 @ 120.5 mph ; Viper GT2 => Motor Trend Magazine April/1999
12.12 @ 118.43 mph ; Viper GTS => Popular Mechanics Magazine 1997
12.19 @ 119.15 mph ; Viper ACR => Motor Trend Magazine November/2000
12.2 @ 119.8 mph ; Viper GTS => Motor Trend Magazine July/1999
12.2 @ 118 mph ; Viper GTS => Car & Driver Magazine July/1997
12.2 @ 118 mph ; Viper RT/10 => Car & Driver Magazine October/1997
12.3 @ 118.19 mph ; Viper RT/10 => Motor Trend Magazine August/2000
Then they claim a few personal owners have went 11.6
Have the c5z06's beat that yet bone stock? I could have sworn some were that I read of a stock c5z06 hitting 11.7????
Do you guys also have a published list from the different mags for the c5z06 like the one above?
Thanks..BTW their both bad *** cars. Just curious to what the mags got for the c5z06 as Im thinking of picking up an example for my wife..

I wouldn't pay any attention to most of those Clowns over at the Alley !!! Most of them don't even track their garage queens.
Ranger has turned the best times on stock Corvettes. I think he did an 11.5xx with a C-5 Z06 and has done a 10.9XX with the C-6 Z06.
On a road course it really comes down to the driver... the Viper has more top end... the Vette corners much better. A well driven stock Z06 will usually take a well driven stock Viper.

they are very close, and the Viper would probably win if... IF it had a "one in 10,000" capable driver.
Keep in mind that the Viper is not to be used as a daily-driver (though I doubt that was your purpose anyways).

The trap speed is the thing to watch, not really the et..
That's the judge during an interstate 2nd, 3rd, 4th gear grudge match.
In that regard, the Viper puts out on the high side of an 03-04 Zo6. It has the potential to be a driver's race, with the edge to the Viper.

I just posted this in another thread but I'll throw it in here too, from corvetteforum.com's C5Z fast list:
1--11.783 @ 116.90--1.818--J-Rod-------'02
2--11.818 @ 117.26--1.783--Ranger------'02 11/03
3--11.93x @ 119.xx--1.xxx --Esoteric-----'0x
4--11.97x @ 118.80--1.90x--GMHTP------'04 03/04
5--11.99x @ 117.61--1.xxx --02Z06Racer '02
6--12.048 @ 115.92--1.866--pwrshfd-----'02 12/03
7--12.08x @ 115.95--1.83x--Pray---------'02 01/06
8--12.09x @ xxx.xx --1.79x--UVETTA------'03
9-12.205 @ 117.96--1.91x--Nat04Z06----'04
10-12.21x @ 112.xx--1.87x--Blue Angel---'02 07/04
Those are bone stock w/ F1's times
Looks like the Viper's trap speed is consistently higher but it's still all pretty close. I'm with Joshua... driver's race w/ edge to Viper

They are very close. Too close to say one will win over the other. It all comes down to the driver.

only one way to find out. Although hard to find a viper around, let alone race one. Had a newer model 03 and up behind me the other day. Thought he was going to stay behind me, but he decided to hit up the expressway at the last second, Damn.
Edge to the Viper with those trap speeds.

Both the Viper and Z06 are difficult cars to drive well; both require finesse with the clutch and throttle, good shifts and shift points. The cars are close enough that the driver with the better technique will usually prevail.
I've personally withnessed a stock Viper RT10 driven by PaulZ run 11.71 at a rental at which my stock 02Z ran 11.89. I've seen another RT10 with an air-path mod and a tweaked exhaust run 11.55 with "Wanted" behind the wheel. My 02Z with CAI and DR was in that neighborhood but only when my driving was machine-like.
On the other hand, I've seen many Vipers running mid-to-high 12s too with novice drivers. Like I said, these cars take technique and experience to get the best from.

When MotorTrend did that top speed shootout they had the Z06 and the Viper. Here's the numbers for both in the standing mile:
Viper: 30.5@167.6
Z06: 31.8@162.6

Link please to the tanding mile?????
Was this a gen 2 viper and 02 Z06 that were compared?
Also the z06 is geared so agressivly man. HOLY SHIZZLE...The C5Z06's max out at 168 mph..The C5Z06 at 162 mph was pretty close to hitting top speed in only a mile!!!!!
The Vipers 167 was still quite a bit away from it's 190 mph top speed..
Looks like a 1.3 second spread..What is that at 160 mph???10 plus cars?????
