Default Insurance For A 17 yr old In a C5

im new to corvettes and am planning on getting a C5(looking for one with low miles). right now i am 16 and have made a deal with my dad to pay off half the car and have him pay the other half. by the time i get the car i will be 17 and i was wondering how much would insurance cost? before i got interested in corvettes i always wanted a camaro . mainly because my brother has a 01 ss. i have always loved the looks of the ss and the power of the ls1 and they dont cost much $$$. now that the c6's have been introduced to the market the price of the c5's has greatly dropped which is always good for me and how does the insurance rates compare to the camaro rates(im guessing it is less because of the 4 seats and its obviously not a corvette)

also it seems the engine bay of the corvette is smaller than the camaro
is it harder to work on?

i am planning to do a cam, heads, headers(im putting my brothers LTs in in a couple weeks ) swap when i get the c5

thank you

We had insured
07 Infinity
91 BMW
03 Honda motorcycle
and my corvette

All for 1300 buck a year

I put my 17yr old son on the BMW..it doubled out insurance to 2600/yr

Son.Im only jealous that I didnt have a vette before my 50th year...but your gonna pay up the wazoo....

Allot depends on what part of teh country you live in too out in the sticks...prolly will cost you less..but if your a city kid....brace yourself...it could be stiff

Good luck..have fun..Mann I wish I had a vette when I was 17!

i had a new 2001 back in 2002, when i was 21 and insurance was very steep, I did have a loan out so full coverage was in the 3500+/- a year

Anything with full coverage and a LT1 or Lsx is not going to be cheap for a 17 yr old

C5 engine bay is much easier to work on , then a f body

I'm guessing you wont be able to pay 6 months at a time so I got a monthly quote for you through USAA. This is the monthly price with a military discount. haha

$427.

Yeah I say before buying a Vette call an insurance company. We pay $2K a year on both Vette's and that is maximum coverage with lower deductibles.

i pay $150/ month with both my Truck and my Vette, full coverage on both with the lowest deductibles. But i only drive my vette 6 months outta the year. Also i have it set at a Pleasure vehicle and can only put 6k miles on it a year but that's fine with me as i don't drive it enough to put 6k on it and they don't even keep track anyway lol Sorry my friend but your gonna get raped with your pants on on a C5 at 17. I had a '00 V6 Camaro at 17 and it was $300 a month. Although i had 2 tickets but even when they went down to no tickets at 19 i still was paying $270. Sucks but your gonna pay dearly at that age and although i really wanted an LS1 car at 18 i'm glad i didn't because i would have surely wrecked it. It takes age and experience to handle power like that. Now i bought my first V8 F-Body at 21 and it was a '96 Z28. Now i have my C5 at 23 and i'm to that point where i can afford it and am a more seasoned driver to where i can handle it. Just some stuff to think about.~Cole~

It wasn't a Corvette, but when I was under 25 I had a Mustang GT that cost me $1150 every six months. I starved the months that ins. was due.

F bodys actually cost more to insure than corvettes (where i live anyway).
I got an insurance quote on getting a 2005 C6 vette, and it went DOWN $500 a year compared to what I am paying on my 99 Trans AM.... makes NO sense to me but i am guessing it mainly has to do with statistics.

I am 22 and Ive had my TA since 18, if you CAN, get on your parents insurance as an occasional driver, I did that for the first few years I had my lisence and insurance was cheap.

i know that some people put it in their parents or under their grand parents name. that way the insurance is considerably cheaper. when i was 19/20 years old, i was paying full coverage on a 99 honda civic si (the sporty edition) and with a few priors on my record i was paying 439/month. lets jus say that when i broke the car not too long after the insurance was taken off the car (jus dont let the bank find out)
