Default Does this sound right to you???

Hey guys, took my 99 HOSS M6 to the 1/8th track and I feel as if i should be running faster.

MODS :
built rear with 373's
315/35/17 Nitto DR's
Corsa Catback
Short Stick
LID
Lower Control Arms

Heres the thing, I bought this car 3 years ago from a kid in south FL who let it sit in a field for 3 years broken. Needless to say I have had to fix a ton of stuff that was not performance related. However I am still running the plugs and wires that sat in it for 3 years in a field and also have been running them since i bought the car 3 years ago, which makes the plugs and wires from what i know at least 3 years old. Car has never been tuned yet either.

my best time is a 8.82 @ 83 MPH 60' s were all 2.1's while spinning my *** off.

yes i tried to lower my tire pressure, and tried launching from an idle, that results in a 9.0 or higher time slip.

Any thoughts ??

I would say you are right on with what a mostly stock car willl run with the exception 3.73's but it doesn't help spinning. I do think you have some left in it though. Have you changed the fuel filter? I def would change the plugs. Get some headers and tune and be close to mid 8's on the slow end in the 1/8th and high 12's in the 1/4. Good luck with it.

I'll try changing the fuel filter out and getting new plugs and wires and a tune, we will see what that does for it i guess..

seems about right. i didn't change the factory installed plugs/wires on my 99 ta until 2009...believe it or not, it made 0 difference in performance. i only changed everything because i had to pull the manifolds. no gain in mph or mpg...kind of disheartening, but at the same time encouraging.

First time putting the car on the track? If so, I would try more seat time with the ol' SS first.

Any idea what the DA was? Assuming its pretty hot and humid down that way...

the car since i have owned it has seen prolly around like 20 passes or so. the DA shouldnt be an issue as im in FL, it was in the 90's that day though.

here is something that makes me think im losing some power...

When i do a big burnout, and let off the gas at the end of said burnout, the car almost dies out. after about 3 seconds or so, it returns to idle. my friends tell me it could just need a tune...or maybe even floating a valve?? any thoughts on this? could this mean im losing power and its hindering my second and or third gear?

You can't judge DA by your elevation. I run at an actual elevation of 300' ASL, but during the summer when humidity and temps are high, it can shoot up over 2k feet DA. Running at 500', I trap 114mph, at 1500', 112 mph...so it makes a big difference.

About the idle issue, might want to clean your throttle body first, check the IAC etc. She sat up for awhile, so it could just be dirty. I would start with checking the basics/easy/free stuff first. Don't see how tuning would affect that honestly. Floating valve..no. Thats something that happens in the upper rpm range under a whole different set of circumstances.

That's almost exactly what my catback only A4 ran, I got a 8.84 at 83 mph in the 1/8, which ended up being a 13.6 1/4 and that was my first and only time out. I'm not 100% convinced that there is anything really wrong with your car, these times are about normal for being basically stock. Plus, when you consider the fact that you said you were spinning and the temperature was in the 90's, I think it's safe to say that it has more in it.

yeah at our local track traction is always an issue...I even tried setting my 315 DR's to 18 LBS and still blew them off with a measly 3k launch

OP your times seem about right to me living in the south too. When I was very similarly modded as you I'd 8.7-8.9 around 82 mph. Added longtubes gears and a BFG drag radial went 8.37 @ 84.xxmph 1.98 60' My local track prep is horrible I leave at idle at 1500rpm launch I'll have a 2.4 60' LOL.

I've since gone H/C spray so my new times don't really help you but the above times should give some idea. Hope this helps
