Help with my launch (IRS Vette on street tires)
Hey guys.. Hoping some of you can offer advice on how to get the famous "driver mod".. I race in a series that only allows true street tires (160 treadwear or better).. I running the Hankook RS-3 in a 285-35-18.. My short times are pretty consistent 2.1's with some 2.2's thrown in.. I usually just bring it up to about 2k rpms and slip out the clutch.. other guys up there are rev'n pretty high and dumping the clutch.. They spin and I dont.. in fact I pretty much bog down at the line.. traction is such an issue that I dont spray until about the 60ft mark.. it comes in at 3500 rpms.. I can run 8.0X and 8.1X all day but thats a far car from my auto TransAm that ran 7.7X's all day.. I just cant seem to figure out this 6 speed stuff I put the tires at about 22lbs.. the weather was 90* and fairly humid so I didnt expect good times and the car runs great after I get it rollin.. in fact one spectator walked over and said "it looks like that thing is getting hit in the *** by a dumptruck at the 60ft mark".. I thought that was pretty funny!.. I almost wonder if turning the jets down to a 100 shot would make the car faster so I could spray sooner.. havent tried it yet.. I just want to figure out how to launch this thing..

Put a go pro inside of the car and watch yourself drive.
As for launching, if you're bogging, why not let the clutch grab sooner and quicker instead of riding it out so slowly. Let the engine do its job if traction is present. Just keep the tires warm!
Also, you can get a two stage plate. 50 at launch and the remaining 100 at 60ft.

How about you get out of the class that makes you use street tires...in a car with a 150 hit. Lol.
Put some damn DR's on it, try taking it up to 3500rpm and quickly slip the clutch. Depending on how the car acts go higher until you can't 60' any better.

I would love that if it werent for all the drag cars dropping down to that class and just dialing their cars back to run exactly on the 7.50 index.. So much sandbagging in the class above me its not even worth running.. not to mention my class is all the local guys that I actually know and hang out with.. Its not a bad event really, 74 cars at the last race.. Im going up Friday to make some test hits.. I looked through my time slips and found a 2.01 I didnt even know I had but my MPH was WAY off.. Had been running 97 mph all night and this one is 90.X.. I had one pass that I missed 3rd gear so I am guessing that is it.

A little spin is good in a 6 speed. Try launching a little higher and still riding the clutch. I hope you have a good clutch. I was doing the same thing and my car would bog down every time. I think I got it covered now but won't be going back to the track until it gets a little cooler. Vettes are hell launching though.
