Finally! 10 sec motor pass, 5 times in a row tonight!
Well, we had some really good Neg DA air tonight and even though we had some bands of light rain pass through, Royal Purple Raceway near Houston was open. I was reluctant to make the 80 mile drive over chancing a rainout, but it paid off big time! Been getting quicker each trip to the track. My goal has been: To run 10 sec motor passes just exactly the way I drive the car on the street, no weight reduction, no short belts, no tricks. Just fill up with fuel and drive to the track and lower tire pressure and race.
I made the drive over and arrived just after the gates opened up. Went straight over and got tech'd in. Made a quick pit stop and lowered the air pressure in the M/T 275-60-15 DR's and headed over to the staging lanes. Had about a 20 minute wait until they started racing.
I guess everyone decided to stay home due to the cold and chance of rain. hey, worked out great for us hardcore guy's. At race time there was only 6 cars in the lanes and maybe 20 cars in the pits.
Weather was cold and dreary. 39 degs 30.28 Barometric pressure & 78% humidity. DA was approx. Neg 1550-1600 ft. Track was cold , but was freshly prepped.
I made two back to back passes. First was an 11.01 @ 122.61mph on a 1.563 60 ft. Hot lapped the second pass with my 1st 10 sec motor pass of the night 10.935 @ 123.31mph on a 1.543 60ft.
Let the car cool down (didn't really need it) and chatted with a friend for 20-30 mins.
Got back in line ( or lack there of) and proceded to make 4 hot laps in a row, never shutting the car off. Car seemed to run better with each pass!
3rd pass- 10.942 @ 123.16mph on a 1.539 60 ft
4th pass- 10.939 @ 123.28mph on a 1.539 60 ft
5th pass- 10.873 @124.03mph on a 1.527 60 ft
6th pass was the last pass, started drizzling rain on the return road, and I was down to 1/8th tank of fuel.
My new PB on motor! Drove 150 miles round trip, 3800 lb raceweight.
60 ft - 1.526
330 ft - 4.442
1/8th - 6.894
1/8th - 99.98 mph
1000 ft - 9.036
1/4 - 10.851
1/4 - 124.27 mph
my next goal is to pull out the 4.11s and install my 3.73s and try for some 9.80- 9.90 150 shot passes.

Congrats on finally getting it in the 10s man! I didn't figure the track would be good but.. -1500 almost as good as it ever gets at RPR.
Sounds like you got it dialed in. Should fly on the jug. Definitely take some gear out. 3.73 would be good on a 150 shot. Hopefully it doesn't drive thru the converter too bad.

We had some KILLER track prep on the TSS rental at RPR on 1/26. Just about pull your shoes off as you walked on the launch pad. We had nice weather but the air was +354' when we started racing at 10:00am.
I wish I would have had -1500.. Probably another 2 mph.. But I broke on the 2nd pass anyway so....lol
I would love to run my 71' in -1500. My PB was at -500'. Old carbed stuff LOVES the cold air..

I would really like to see you run both of your Vettes sometime. I didn't actuall see the Z06 passes the other day, but did see the video. Would be cool to see you bring the ole 71 out, I love old school muscle too!
Thanks man!
The ole car has been running good for me. Not too bad for an ole heavy *** car, I was stoked last night on the ride back home. Wanted to just manage anything in the 10s on motor. Really didn't expect to do as well as I did.
Now that I accomplished that goal, I'm gonna get serious about lining out the nitrous passes. I think its just really a matter of getting those gears swapped out so I can hammer it all the way through the traps on the juice

I am going to Evadale next weekend if the weather holds out. Gonna try some 150 shot passes again and see if I can get closer to the 9s, but afraid the 4:11s are gonna hold me back from reaching that goal. But, I do have some 3:73s on the shelf. Time to swap them out now and get those 9.80-9.90 slips on the juice, hopefully!

Flowman,
Not to thread jack you but.. Here is a vid of a pass I made the week after I saw you at RPR.. This was the private TSS rental deal I was talking to you about.
I've got my converter at FTI having it tightened again. Still way too loose down the track.
Its good that your converter is tight on motor, it will loosen a bit with 3.73s. It will be just right on the spray.. You should run some 9.70-9.80s pretty easy on a 150 hit..probably 136 or so..

Congrats man!!! that is moving for sure. What do you run in say +800 DA weather if you don't mind me asking? We haven't had a negative DA day yet at the track this year. Ive run 11.23-11.25@122 in +800DA so im hoping we can get some good air one day and dip mine into the 10's

My FTI 3800 billet triple disc converter is sped'd for nitrous so its tight on motor passes. Probably really about 3500 on motor passes and should flash to around 4100 or so on a 150 shot. I'm so tempted to pull it out and send it back to FTI for my free re-stall and loosen it up to around 4200 and see what that would do for my 60 ft times. But, I want to try and optimize my 150 shot passes first and try for some upper 9s. Will be swapping in my 3:73s here real quick to get a full out spray pass.
Good luck on getting some neg DA air and that 10 sec pass!

My best pass of the night was my 6th pass and was actually my fourth pass in a hot lap spree. Made four passes in a row without ever shutting the engine off. Weather was exceptionally cool, DA was great and there were only 6-10 cars running at any given time.
New best:
10.851 @ 124.27 mph on a 1.521 60 ft and the 1/8th mile was pretty nice also 6.89 @ 99.98 mph. Raceweight at 3800 lbs. 2007 L92 engine, cam & bolt-ons, 4L85E tranny 3800 FTI nitrous spec converter, 12 bolt w/ 4.11s on 275-60 15" M/T DRs.

Thanks Madman
I appreciate your help and I will probably get with you in the next week or two and talk to you on installing my Strange Spool & 3.73s.
You gonna be at Evadale on Saturday the 15th? I'm gonna try some nitrous passes and see ifthe BMR anti-roll bar helps the launches on the 150 shot.

Nice passes! If I can get that same DA, I'm hoping for the same results with my daily driver 353 LT1 N/A then 9.99 on the sauce. Most of the year, our DA is usually 2800-3400 so it will probably have to come early or late in the year. The goal is to hit 10.99 on motor in normal mid summer DA but we'll see what I have to do to actually make that happen.
