Default My National Event Experience

We(me, my 9 year old daughter and my 2 boxers) pulled into the gate Thursday at San Antonio Raceway right at 8:00pm. As I went the pick up all my credentials it started to rain. It only rained for about 15 minutes. Of course we were parked out in the boonies. We were even pasted the et booth. Next year I will have to get there alot earlier.

Friday morning we went out for our 1st pass. Car run really bad, 11.14@123. Called Madman and we found the problem. With that fixed we run 10.48@127. Still not very happy the way the car was running. The IHRA called off the Pro Qualifying(20 to 30mph winds) and gave us a 3rd TT. This run the car felt alot better. We ran a 10.41@127. Still not were we should be but better. At least we can now dial the car for Saturdays Elim.

Saturday morning at 9:56am, we were up 1st. I dial a 10.42. My weather station said she was going to run a 10.43 with a 8 but we had no wind today and I dialed 1 down. I cut a .023 light to his .053 and hit the brakes at the top end and run a 10.44@117. I ran the run completer and she was going to run a 10.39 with a 1. Now, here is what SUCKS about a national event, my 2nd round was not until 5:36pm. The saying hurry up and wait is very true. I dialed a 10.40 and cut a .017 light to the other guys .043 and tap the brake right at the finish line and run a 10.44@129mph. 3rd round we finally got to run at 10:30pm. I dialed a 10.32(it was really cold 51 degrees). I red lighted with a -.023 and ran way off with a 10.42 on a 10.32 dial. The other guy cut a .018 light and ran a 10.53 on a 10.45 dial. My national event was over.

I want to think my wife, Madman/JBZ race cars, Tony(LS1tech stickers) and Thunder Racing for all ya'lls help.

Next weekend I am off(wife needs some attention). My next race will be April 16th at HRP for a track points race. Until then,

Coach

Atleast you went a couple rounds. Probably got in some quality time with your daughter too, with all the waiting.

We had our 1st points race Friday. I cut a .495 red light against a good buddy of mine in the first round. I came back and got him in the finals, but he got all the points.

At least Coach you had a couple of good runs. Red lights really suck. Sounds like near of you ran your numbers in the 3rd round. Maybe is just got tooooo cold.

Good luck on the 16th

Tuff luck in the 3rd round Coach. National events can be tough on the nerves as well as equipment. Way to hang in there and get around your problems with your car and make it to the third round. Best of luck to you next time!

I know what that is like, being out in the boonies but past the ET booth! That is what I also hate about National events, too much time in between. You did very good regardless of the time spread. Next time Coach, next time. Just enjoy your weekend off and enjoy your time with the Mrs.

Thanks for the report!
Man, I always hate waiting, but like mentioned above beats working.

I went out in the third round here (1st Points Race) of the season here. I'm going to have to swap out converters again. This one builds to much heat in it and with short turn around times my ET were off about .05 according to my predicator.

Get in next week!

good job on making a few rounds Coach! National events can be a true test of the nerves waiting over a period of 1-4 days between qualifying and eliminations. Good luck on the 16th!

Thanks everyone. We had a great time. I don't think my 9 year old will ever forget. We really did bond this pasted weekend.

Bad news is we think the reason the car ran so bad is the tranny acting up again. This will be the 6th time it has been worked on in the past year or so. The tranny is coming out tomorrow. This time she is going to Tranz-King to be freshen up.

The Hot Rod will be ready for battle on the 16th of April becuse Madman said so!

I just really looked at the results from the race and the guy that put me out in the 3rd round went on to win the event.

Is this your first year running a National Circuit?

Good luck this season

2nd ever national event race. I won the SS/EA class at the Fram Super Nationals in Houston back in 1991. Looking forward to my next one.

Tranny update. It is out of the car and going to Tranz-King today. We think we hurt high gear. We'll see what they say.
