Default getting used to the power

I ran my new car tonight for the first time and i about **** myself cutting a 1.63 60 ft. i used to have a 95z that ran a 13.7 with a 2.15 60 ft and i was not prepared for this. My dumb *** had the seat reclined back too far and i was planted deep back in it... I let off for a second in disbelief and ran a 12.7 at 108mph. I think i am addicted now and want to break into the 11's. This car has it in it, the buddy of mine who sold it to me ran a 12.08, so i will get there. I am just amazed at the diferent feeling the launch had. Hope to be posting up some better times soon but to be honest, this will take a few passes to get used to added power i now have.God bless the ls1....

Practice, practice, practice. With your set-up 11's should be no problem. Not a big fan of the 3.73's, IMO 4.10's would be better. Tires? 1.63 is not all that bad, but 1.50's shouldn't be a problem, therefore 11's.

I was planning on building myself a large bore motor, but after seeing someone total their car at the track the other night because they were not used to the power...I decided to go with a H/C swap first.

I know the feeling. I was used to a cam only LS1 on nitto drag radials that ran 12.4 before spinning a rod bearing. Then I had a 413cid LS2 built and I got a set of slicks. I had driven the car on the street, but it was hard to feel the new found hp because I would just blow the tires off until the middle of 3rd gear. My first pass with the slicks on, I dropped the clutch at about 5500 rpm and the car dead hooked and threw me back in my seat so hard it kind of freaked me out, then grabbing 2nd gear hard it did the same thing. It was a very wierd feeling, that def. takes some getting used to which I havent had time to do yet, because the very next pass I snapped my steel ds and cracked the tailshaft housing on my trans. So now Im swapping to a th400. I cant wait for the season to start again.

Best thing is the first time you see nothing but sky

Don't know if you've ever rode a fast motor cycle, but it is a whole new feeling when you're in a car that will break off a bike.

.

As said, practice. There is no hurry. Stuff starts to happen faster & faster. Huge jump from 13.00-12.00-11.00 ect.
You need to react, not think about every reaction you have to make. Nothing like the snap of your neck when you launch.
It all gets boring & old hat as you get pass' under your belt. Good luck & have fun making your goal.
