Default Any tips for a newb racing a Stalled A4 at then track

So I went to the track on friday for the first time ever in my life my car is a 99z28 a4 full boltons 228r tsp cam and ported 241 numbers are in my sig. I had a buddy teaching me how to launch the car since I never did it before. My first run I ran like 14.2 and was like wtf the second run I ran 13.1 and the last I ran 13.00 at 107 I know the car has got more than that. I am on stock suspension and stock gears with stock trans. I have a 2800-3200 stall by monster also I was using his D radials so I didnt have a problem hooking. How should I launch the car. My buddy was telling me flash it to about 1000 rpms and then when it hits green let off the brake and floor that bitch is that the best way? I also heard that I shoot push the gas lightly and stall the car as high *** possibe before the tire spins I have no clue I know it take alot of practice to learn how to launch the car right I just need help.

Hi,

As far as launching a stall you are on the right track. I usually brake stall to 2k and punch it just a split second before I let of the brake. I kept notes of what RPM I launched at and then work up from there until I found were my best 60' foot was. If I launched at to high of an RPM I would spin. So I just backed off a couple hundred RPM and found the sweet spot. Hope that helps.

On a side note, your trap appears to be extremely low with those mods. Did you mean 117??? I have a similar cam and shitty stock 98 heads and trap almost 115. My buddies A4 02 z28 (2.73's) traps 106 with just a muffler, not even the full catback. Might want to check the tune. What was your 60'? Were you getting out of it before the 1/4 mark?

Your is stout. I would think your car should run with mine given the ported heads (I do have a bigger stall and 3.42's) and I run in the upper 11's N/A.

Few Questions... so bare with me...

What is your tire pressure?
What kind of drag radials?

I ask because it is extremelly important to monitor your tire pressure. I have MTs and I run 15#s at the track because I found that I hook better.

Is the car spinning or bogging? If it is spinning then you wont be moving and your RPMs will shoot up. If it is bogging the car will lurch forward and then sorta fall on its face... like the nose is dipping....

If your spinning then you need to lower the RPMs and if it is bogging then you need to raise the RPMS.

Also, don't let of the brake and then jam the gas..... Jam the gas a nano-second before letting of the brake.... and let off the brake quickly.

Ok, regardless of your 60 foot.... we have some other problems. There is no way that car should be running anything but sub 12.5s..... and really lower than that.

What are your shift points? They should be higher than stock even with a relatively mild cam....

What intake are you running?.... if it is an ls1 than you need to get to swap that out for an ls6.

Are you sure that your converter is locking up? You may have converter slipage.

Your MPH is off, I don't have a TC, cam, headers or ported heads and I have the same MPH as you.

I think I know what I was doing wrong my tuner explained that I should be launchig the car in D instead of OD there is no stall lockup in OD so i would get out the whole pretty good I think my 60 was 1.997 if I am not mistaken I will have to look at the sheet again then the car would go in to like OD and kinda level off.

That would be your problem.... Also, make sure your TCS is off.

TCS will stop the tires from spinning.... It senses if a one wheel is turning faster than the others. It then applies the antilock brake system (pulses the brake) to stop the tire from spinning.

Some cars even reduce engine power to remedy the problem. (not sure about ls1s... my car didn't come with TCS)

Thus, you are applying the break and/or reducing power during the launch which causes the car to bogg.

your car has 1,2,3 I guess you should launch in 3 then mines goes OD,D,2,1 it makes a big difference I was messing around on the street yesterday I dropped it in 2 from a 40 roll hammered it that bitched pulled like a ******* train but I keep messing up when having to go back up to D at 6500 thats for roll racing for the strip though my tuner told me just put it in D and stall it up and then smash it.
