Default Anyone running a aftermarket/relocated coolant overflow?

If so what and/or where did you buy or relocate the tank to? I ask this in this section cause I know drag guys relocate a lot of stuff. Mainly interested in the relocation part of the question. Thanks

I bought a summit overflow tank, and relocated it into the spare tire well... ran a line from the front of the car to the back The coolant doesn't re-circulate from there, so anytime anything gets in it I have to add it back to the radiator (because I put the feed on the top and the bottom that has the ball valve runs out the bottom of the car, so I can drain it) but I don't find that a big hassle.

I run the radiator down about 1/2 an inch from the normal full line anyway, so there isn't much that ever gets back there, probably about an ounce or 2 after an entire day of racing, unless I fill the radiator up 100%, in that case a good bit will get back there (because it has to expand and go somewhere)

I should also mention, I run strait water... not sure of coolant would make a difference or not.

Yeah, I just don't have a picture of it handy.

Pretty simple to do, only hard part was stretching the hose over the nipple on the radiator LOL. I could have done it the right way with an adapter, but I was too lazy to go back out to the parts store again.

I use the summit plastic one. Its mounted at a 35º angle (from horizontal) on the side of the radiator support under the passenger frame rail. Not the greatest angle for storing a lot of fluid, but it doesn't really puke that much out.

I'll try to get a photo.

Water cools beter then a 50/50 mix, but the problem is that it freezes below 32 degrees and it does not lubricate the water pump seal as well.

I thought about doing something different with my coolant overflow, but there really isn't any benefit from messing with it, the stock tank is plastic, so why would you add weight by running extra line, and an aftermarket aluminum tank?

Keep the stocker, unless there is a weight advantage.

Mine is relocated to clean up the engine bay, and it does get rid of a few lbs. I run 100% water with Wix Cool additive. But the block and radiator gets drained for the winter.

Pics of your setup? I'm always looking to shed a pound or two if possible

I do cheat and run a little water wetter.... but I don't think it does that much to be honest, I didn't see any change when I put it in.

I put the overflow in the back of the car for safety, if you puke the head gaskets and pressureize the cooling system you could push all the water out and into the overflow.... if it's in front of the tires, that means when it overflows it's going on the tires, not good.

That's why I put it in the back, that plus the hose and summit bottle vs the stock overflow tank, I guarintee it weigh's a good bit less.

You can see the small plastic summit bottle I went with here. Not as nice as the setup that carlos did..... but it works, and was probably a good bit cheaper

I still have a stock on on my radiator.

When the little radiator goes in it will get a 20 lb cap.
