Default Hit a Snag Removing Air Bags. Help!

First off, a search didnt answer this question.

Ok, so I pulled all my air bag equipment and when I started on pullin the wiring I ran into a problem. The light brown wire (there are 2 brown wires, one light and one dark) runs to the main dash harness then it has a T in it. One wire from the T runs into the OBD port and the other runs into the big wiring block thats just to the left of the steering column, hangin from the lower dash bar. If you are lookin at your OBD port as it is mounted, the wire is the first one on the left, on the lower row.

I was just wonderin what you guys have done with this deal when you pull the air bags. Thanks.

If no one knows what to do with these wires, does anyone know what they are exactly. I cant find a wiring diagram with them in it.

Cut the wire at the "tee" and leave the part that goes elsewhere? Chances are it routes to the steering wheel and the glovebox. I'm assuming its coming from the air bag sensor under the center console?

When I took my airbags out, I took every wire that was going to the airbag connectors, and cut them out one by one, right up to wherever it was that they plugged into etc.

I removed the control module from under the center console too

Airbag is still in the steering wheel, but that wheel is coming off with all the other stuff I'm doing, so I'm not too concerned about it. It was like that for 2 years, with no problems.... so I think it's ok.

Only the signal wires that that run from the plugs to the bags, and the power wire that runs from the fuse block to the module in the center console.

Like I said, it runs from the module under the console to the OBD port and the junction blockto the left of the column.

Did you pull all the wires that ran to module out or just the 4 signal wires? Do you remember seein the light brown wire I'm talkin about?

I pulled everything, the module, all the wires running to it, etc.etc. I took everything out that I could... and when the wheel gets changed I'll yank all the stereo and airbag related wires from the column while I'm at it.

I hate a useless birds nest, and tried my best to get rid of everything I could.

Ok, so you cut that wire right at the OBD port than? And it doesn't cause problems with tunning?

I see, thanks!

So, sine its for both the air bags and ABS should I expect an "ABS INOP" light if I just snip the wire, or not?

Ditch the abs, it's another good way to clean the engine bay up anyway

Then you'll most certainly have an abs inop light, but at that point it's just another light on the dash.

I wodner if there is a way to trick the PCM into thinking the ABS is still there - i.e. with a resistor or something like that????

I took my cluster out and put some black foam on top of the led real easy to do! I have been driving for 6 months that way no lights no worries haha

I think, that you probably can take the LED off and replace it with a no light emmitting diode on the cluster and whamo, no more lights.

Just need to get the part # off the LED, look it up and see what the spec's are on it, then put a regular diode in it's place (the right way)

I think the abs will work fine, just just what you have to so the airbag's are removed only.... leave that brown wire going to teh pcm execpt for the portion that goes to the airbags.

I'm not 100% on that though, becuase I have been running a 26/28 inch tire combo for so long that I have had the abs light on forever.

Well, all that runs threw the air bag module harness so Id hafta leave that all hangin in order to retain ABS. If I understand whats goin on correctly.

I think Im pretty much sold on an ABS delete already. Ive only slid a vehicle once due to brakin, and that can all be chalked up to bad tires, bad shocks, and unfavorable conditions. Beyond that, it was a truck that handled like a air craft carrier compared to my Camaro.

You can pull the cluster and just remove bulbs for whatever lights you want.
