Default Cheap skinny tires?

I've got a pair of 15x3.75'' wheels coming, I was just wondering what/where people buy their skinny tires from? I was about to order the MT frontrunners, but then I remembered somebody said they used VW tires or something as a cheap alternative.

So anybody got any ideas/tips/advice for cheap alternative front tires, or should I just go with the MT fronts?

This car will see the street plenty, but it's certainly no daily driver, just cruising and street racing. It will see the track occasionally, but primarily street driven.

Any tire shop can get them. The size is 185r15 iirc. Probably around $100 mounted and balanced for the pair

165/80/15 is about 25.5 tall and a 155/80/15 is a little shorter.

I would suggest to get the M/T sportsmans if you plan on driving on the street alot with them. The cheap front runners for VW's are not designed for high speeds.

I would also recommend some m/t sportsman fronts. I know a few local guys who have had blowouts with the cheap vw tires.

If you plan on driving on the street then the 19 lb M/T Sportsmans with the 8-ply rating (part #1573, the ones I use on my Prostars) or the M/T SR Radials appear to be the most viable options. They are heavy so not as good for drag racing as a 12 lb M/T ET Front or a Moroso DS/DS2, but street use involves bumps and lateral loads that race-only skinnies may not be able to handle.
And yeah, those cheap radials are for 2400 lb cars going 65mph, not 3400 lb cars going 110+.

You mean these?

I dunno, the maximum load is 1,069 lbs per tire, which would seem to be enough (my Sportsmans are rated for 1,450 lbs). The minimum recommended rim width is 4.5" though.

I asked about running cheap radials on a local board and everyone told me to get the heavy Mickeys, citing instances where guys blew out cheap tires on their skinnies while just driving down the highway.
I had Moroso Drag Specials (2 ply, 10 lbs) on my Draglites, but I only used them at the track. Unless you trailer the car it's a PITA to bring a jack and swap the wheels in the pits, hoping that someone doesn't steal your jack and street tires while you're racing.

I have a good low mileage set of MT sportman fronts for sale, they are the 8 ply. I sent the OP a PM.

I posted this same thread on a local forum and they all said it would be unsafe to run a radial rear (I already have MT drag radials) with a bias ply front tire. Is this true? I did a quick search and it seems that most people agree that if you have to mix it's best to have radial rear and bias front.

Would you rather have the heavy duty bias ply mickeys on front even though it would be mixing tire types

or...

Stick with radials all around and getting some 155/80/15 radials for the front. They are only rated for 118 MPH, which I plan to exceed on nitrous, but not by much, and it would only be for a brief second or two during nitrous runs which wouldn't be very often?

Mickey Thompson makes four radial front runners for our cars: SR, 8ply, and 4ply. I have the 8ply on my car but will probably swap them out for the SR's when they wear down.
