If you run a 17x6 17x7 whatever size it is there is more tire avaibilty and its streetable.

don't know if this is answer you want, if you run a smaller tire in back, it's like going to a numerically higher gear.

Are you talking about on the street or at the track?
I assume track since it is in this section.

Probably using slicks on the rear and keeping their street wheels tires on the front.

Are you talking about a 17" skinny, like a 17x4.5 wheel? If so, I think it's because it looks a tad better and fills out the front wheelwell better IMO. This way you can run 15" (rear) at the track, then swap to some matching 17" (rear) for street use.

Probably brake clearance. Some 15" rims you have to grind, 16" doesn't have much of a much of a tire selection, 17" will clear w/ no worries and m&h has those sweet radial skinnys for them now.

Most are running street tires on the front and lightweght wheels and slicks out back.

Unless you absolutely, no matter what, have to have them for brake clearance then that's one thing but putting the staggered combo on a door car looks terrible IMO. I'll leave that for the guys with dragsters...

I agree I think its for brake clearincing for sure, but I have no idea why peeps do it? Even at the track, is it just easier to slap on the 15s and run it or what? Anyone here do it and have a proven dynamic?

Looks and brake clearance is the only advantage. I just don't see the need for brakes so large in the front you can't run 15" wheels.

15" front runners and a chute out the back looks cooler anyways!! lol

Again, also used for increased rollout.

a 26" tire is a 26" tire no matter what size rim it is on.

i'd actually venture to say a 26" tire on a 17" rim could have LESS rollout/faster reaction due to less deflection of the tire. Just like dropping/raising tire pressure to add/shave a few thousandths at the tree.

Keep in mind most people short of hardcore drag racers are going to still be running stock front brakes, so that means at least a 16" wheel, and as it's been said, tire selection for 17's is better than for the 16's if you're running a narrower front wheel.

And to the OP: Not sure if you got this or not, but the main reason for 15's out back is the availablity of slicks for 15's

Quick Reply: why do people run 17s in front and 15s in back?
