Drag Racing School
Just wondering if anyone here has ever gone to one of these drag racing schools offered by some local tracks? I was thinking about going to one. There are two in my area - One at Los Angeles County Raceway for $500. It is a 1 day class (although they advertise as 2 day) and you get to do (2) of your NHRA license runs. I think you can pay more to come back and do the rest of the runs, though. The other is the Frank Hawley "official" NHRA school. That one is $1750 and is 2 days and you get to do all your license runs and hopefully walk away from the class with everything done for your license. This class sounds pretty cool BUT it's $1750!!! That's a lotta bread... Waddya you guys think about this and drag school in general? I'm pretty much a newbie to drag racing... I just wish I could bring my own car to the school - I can at the Florida version of the Hawley school but that's pretty far to drive...

My dad went to Frank Hawleys School .. He took his car and went for a Driving/Reaction Time School it was a 2 day class. He said it was worth every penny, hes been racing 30 years and said he learned a lot from that. He said that it was a class act, and Frank Hawley is very smart . Good thing is he told me a lot of what he learned

i went and i can tell you, you will learn alot but dont be discouraged if youre not a champion within a week. it takes practice to efficiently put all your new skills to work. if you do what they teach you and mix in a little of what you learn from experience you should do MUCH better than before.
and winning is just as fun as going fast

My friend and I went to Frank Hawley in Pomona and had a great time. We did the Super Gas Firebirds. The have 600 hp big blocks and are set up to run 9.50's and cut 1.3 60's. The price is high but you get alot of tips and a great teaching style. I wish I had took the class when I started racing.

So you think it's better to go ahead and spend the money and do it right the first time? I am inclined to agree...
Silver - How many people were in your class? Were you able to do all the necessary runs for your NHRA license? DId you have to book the class pretty far in advanced? I am waiting for my info packet in the mail from them...
Thanks!

www.royhillsdragracingschool.com . He can teach you to drive anything from a jr. dragster to a promod. If you pay attention, you'll learn a lot from him. most his schools are in PA, NC, and SC.

if you really need to go to school to learn how to drive your car down the track you sould not have a ls1 car
you can probably laern some cool stuff that you could use but did you see the prices it is definatly not woth that money
just practice thats all you need

It's worth twice the price if your serious about racing. Pro drivers still go back to school btw.

i guess it could be worth it if you are going to race pro and you want every edge amaginable but for someone just driving his car at the track its really not worth it atleast to me

Just want to make sure that when I get behind the wheel of a 1000rwhp car, I'll know how to drive it and what to do. $1750 is a drop in the bucket compared to how much I've spent on this car in time and money. I think it would be a good investment, afterall, I wouldn't want to eat the wall my first time out in it

Just signed up for the Frank Hawley class for April 19 & 20. I can't wait! They sent me a great little manual. Now I have to practice my racing on my Playstation2 game "IHRA Drag Racing." I'll let you know how it turns out and if I complete enought good runs for my license!
