If it was an auto you were about right. If it was a stick then you need some stickier tires and a more agressive launch.

I test drove a new 2003 Mustang GT before buying my used 99 WS6. It was a stick shift car. My first impression was that it couldnt breathe. Felt like a truck motor.

Then I saw my car sitting on a lot, test drove it, and knew it was the car for me It pulls throughout the entire RPM range. I'm sold on the LS1. As for the Mustang, I'm no expert on the 4.6, but they need to be opened up. Better intake, heads, exhaust. That smaller V8 should be a screamer. But it acts like its breathing through a straw.

With just basic bolt-ons and some gears there are guys running 12.7-13.0 in the manuals. They launch the hell out of them though.

Your first mistake was buying the GT if you wanted a performance car.

Yeah, the GT wasn't the best platform to start with but check out the minimal mods on this Mach1

You bought a GT, went drag racing, didn't run what you expected, and came to an LS1 site to bitch about it? What's wrong with this picture?

Yes, instead of buying a new 2004 GT, you should have bought a new 2004 LS1 Camaro or Firebird. I highly recommend taking your GT down to your local GM dealer and trading up for a new 04 F-body ASAP. Or perhaps you could find a left-over 2003?

BTW...the GT is most certainly a "performance car". It is not the equal of an LS1, Mach 1, or Cobra, but it is still a reasonably-priced RWD V8 performance coupe. Those with faster cars and biggers heads may believe otherwise, but I digress.

Don't start name calling just because you get offended easily. You know that GT's are turds from the factory. Yes, they are reasonably priced American built V8's with potential. Performance cars they are not.

I'm sorry, where is the name calling again? And who is easily offended? Further, why should I be offended? I do not have a GT - I have a Cobra. Perhaps it is you that was offended by the "big head" comment? Hmmm....I wise man once said that if the shoe fits, wear it. Good advice my friend.

Now, if you think GTs are "turds" and aren't "performance cars", ok. I disagree. I'm over it - I would suggest that you should get over it too. Or not. Your choice.

Perhaps if this thread doesn't go your way, you will lock it? Oh wait - wrong forum.

Have a wonderful day, shipmate.

Turds? . I guess I shouldn't mention the fact that there are a few N/A 2Vs running 11s, and many more running mid to low 12's, some with just bolt-ons. But whatever, I dont even know why people still argue about this. If you dont like Mustangs, or just GTs then stop bitching about them an move on. If you want to BUY a fast car, get an LS1, if you want to BUILD a fast car, get a Mustang. Hell, look at Bob's Cobra, bolt-ons and he will hand many LS1's their ***. I agree with Unit, Mustangs aren't performance cars, but they DO have potential, and that is why I bought mine. Flame away, Im ready.

66mustang04, if you wanna keep your car, get gears and a sticky tire, and you will love the car. You will rearely see Mustangs breaking very high 13s on street tires. short times are where Mustangs drop ETs, LS1s make power and can make up for a shitty 60' up top. With a mustang suspension/traction will get you very far.

mu buddies 2003 mach 1 ran a 12.89 with stock tires, stock weight and only an slp loudmouth catback. I sure was impressed. but the mach 1 does have an all aluminum dohc motor in it.

similarly, roger on this board has gone 12.97 BONE stock on 275/40 Nittos. Yes, they have an Aluminum DOHC, but for some reason Mach's seem heavy

Bob, I've pretty much manhandled every single GT who's come across me at the track and on the street. I haven't run into a fast, streetable one yet.
GT's sound good but are slow.

Now, the Mach1's a nice runner, and Cobras are bad ***.

As for the '04 F-bod comment... that was lame...

No kidding? Who'd of thunk it? A car running 117+ mph trap speeds "manhandles" most GTs. You'll also "manhandle" most non-2003/2004 Cobras - and even some of those. So what? That makes them slow too?

You'll also note that I have no illusions about the GT being as quick as the LS1. Kindly refer to my previous post for evidence.
