Default New best in 71 BB Camaro

Hey me and my dad were at atco yesterday. We had his 71 Camaro with a solid lifter 454 in it. We are running 275/60/15 BFG drag radials. We just drove down there, dropped the air pressure in the back, raised it in the front and oped up the cutouts. Previous best was a 12.025@112.90 w/ a 1.83 60'
I only got one pass in it but thats all i needed. 11.785@114.45 w/ a 1.70 60'. I was impressed. The car has stock oval port heads, anout 10.1:1 compression, hooker LT's, 4000 stall, 4.10's, 750 doubhle pumper holley, and a big ole crane solid lifter cam(not sure of the exact specs). I think with some slicks(1.5's 60') , ewp, cold air induction and a good tune low 11's are posssible. What do you guys think. We were manually shifying the TH350 @6300. Going threw the lights at about 5900. It felt good.

not bad for craptastic oval port heads...if budget is the name of the setup I would look into upgrading to some squareports atleast....those can be opened up alot more than the "peanut port" heads on the car now and will really let that motor perform!

throw on a 28x12.5 et street and swap that junk carb out. go straight to a 1050 dominator jetted to either 90 or 92 square and you'll see a drastic improvement

oval ports are'nt the greatest but they can flow decent. and what intake are you running? go to a oval port team g to compliment the dominator and you'll be suprised ovals are very good for torque so you'll see a definent 1/8 mile time pickup without losing any top with these changes and over all et will improve by i'd guess at least 4tenths

How high do you think we can spin this big block?. The higher we shift it, the faster it goes. It doesnt have a manual valvebosy just a mild shift kit. We have the shift lite set at 6300 but by the time it shifts its around 6800. Do you think it can take anymore?. What kind of subframe connectors do you suggest. Are landrum springs and caltrac bars worth the money?

yes they are more than worth the money them or a set of slide a links and go with a landrum mono leaf and adjustable drag shocks on all 4 corners. spinning it depends on your bottom end rotating assembly your cam specs headflow characteristics valvsprings intake so i don't know with out more info. i don't shift mine till 7500 and like i said ditch the carb give me more info and i'll help you out

I bought a set of slide-a links and Landrum mono's for my '67. Haven't put 'em on yet, but I hope they hook! I'm also running 3way adjustable Comp. Enig. drag shocks all around (currently 90/10-50/50.)We'll see soon enough, then I can chime in on the effectiveness!

I'd say the landrums and caltracs are worth the $$$. I have landrums and they work better than the past 3 sets of mono-leafs I've run. I'm still running slapper bars b/c I'm not at the point yet where I need the cal-tracs and the car still hooks great! I'd hesitate to chuck your 750 dp holley though. A buddy of mine runs 10.40s at 127 with an oval-port pump gas big block in a 3300 lb 71 nova and he's tried a bunch of carbs on it including a 930 hp and a standard 750 dp seems to work the best. He recently swapped from competition engineering slapper bars and 50/50 drag shocks to caltracs and rancho adjustable shocks and picked up 3 hundredths on his 60 foot times to a 1.427 on 28 x 10 x 15 et drags (3.73 gears and 3400 converter). Your mph is decent and I think you could get down to the 11.50s range based on it without changing much else except for sticker tires like a et drag or et street.

Good luck!

Derek

I'm not sure exactly how the bottom end is built but i know it has forged pistons. The cam is probably in the neighorhood of 235-240 duration @.05o and lift right around .600. I do agree i wanna see what it wil do with some real tired on the bacl so i can come out of the gate full throttle. I'm just walking it out now. As far as a different intake manifold, there is NO MORE room under the L88 hood so thats probably out of the question for now.
Thanks guys

yes but what intake is on it now? a teamg isn't that tall. and if it's a 235-240 6800 is about it for rpm in a big block
