Which 6-8 point roll bar?
Well, I'm gonna bite the bullet and install a roll bar while the interior is out of the car. Please post likes / dislikes about various brands. Right now I'm torn between Wolfe 6 point (I like the low door bars, but don't like the $$), and Jeg's 8 point (like the 8 point, like the price, but don't like the straight door bars and haven't heard any good/bad on this). I'm not interested in getting it jig notched so I can make any adjustments I may need.
I generally like to sit with the seat all the way back and pretty far reclined as I'm 6'1". I realize that some of this will have to be given up, but any feedback on required hoop placement is appreceated.

I just installed a Wolfe 6 point bolt in this past week. It fits great but if I had to do it again I would get their weld in version. As far as main hoop placement, Wolfe makes it to set back as far as possible and you really can't put any more angle it the hoop. If you talked to Wolfe they might be able to make some minor changes to suit your needs, I had them move my cross bar up 2" and they didn't even charge me extra to do it.
BTW: I'm 5'10" 180lbs, driving the car I'm comfortable but, getting in and out is kind of a bitch especaily if your in a situation where you can't open the door all the way (like in some peoples garages).

Wolfe says that a 6 point chromoly is 60lbs. My mild steel one weighed in at 75lbs with the hardware. The chromoly version is $300 more. If your on a budget like me and not out to set any records then I can't see spending the extra $300 for 15-20lbs. Although my car is a factory stripper to start with so I really wasn't worried about the extra few pounds.

I agree, for 15 lbs, I'll just lay off the pasta and save $300 and then some, plus I wont have to sneak the car in to work to tig the chromemoly- it's great having a mig at home.

I just installed a S+W 8pt (but made it a 6pt ) and just had the side bars bent the way Wolfe does that was after custom fitting it in a conv. as I couldn't wait 3-4 weeks for wolfe to make me one . Overall iwas pleased with the qaulity of there cage and it was jigged notched for price was right 150.00
had a friend pick it up and bring it down on his way to visit me.

Thanks for the idea- the only thing I really liked about the Wolf was the bent side bars, so I called Alston and they said they'd make the same bend for me at n/c. So the kit will cost me only $175.00, and I've seen the fitment of their main hoop- real nice. Plus they'll have it ready for me to p/u (no shipping ) on tuesday!

Notching is when the ends of the tubing are cut with a full radius so the tube butts up against another at a joint and a continuous bead can be welded all the way around.
