Why are my times so slow?!?!
Car-
1999 Camaro SS M6
Mods-
PP S2 5.3L heads, 232/228 .595/.588 112lsa cam, Pacesetter long tubes going into the stock catback. Intake is stock, rear is stock, clutch is stock.
Tires: BFGoodwrich KDWS 285/40 ZR17 in back and 275 up front
Weight of car is stock
Today-
Temp: 57*
Humidity: 64%
Track-
Milan Dragway www.milandragway.com
60 - 2.302
330 - 5.903
1/8 ET - 8.745
1/8 mph - 86.54
1000 - 11.153
1/4 ET - 13.166
1/4 MPH - 110.83
60 - 2.205
330 - 5.856
1/8 ET - 8.706
1/8 mph - 87.02
1000 - 11.121
1/4 ET - 13.147
1/4 MPH - 111.40
60 - 2.264
330 - 5.890
1/8 ET - 8.731
1/8 mph - 86.37
1000 - 11.135
1/4 ET - 13.143
1/4 MPH - 112.23
Some other things to note, I added LT's and gained .5 et and 4mph from my last time out. I am kind of discouraged here but I really think some slicks and an ls6 intake will go a long way. Will a ported TB help? I am really thinking some 4.11's will help a lot too.
Also, I ran about 10 times, everyone with slicks were 60'ing about 1.8-1.9's, most with street tires were doing 2.2-2.6 60's, I'm starting to think the track I was at was kinda shitty, cause people would drive right through the water box and get water all over the track. My best three runs listed above were my first three, the rest of the night I kept getting slower and slower.
Anysuggestions welcome.
thanks

definetly cause your not hooking. i have the same tires 285/40's and best i could cut was a 2.274 and still spun first and second. this is why this season im gonna be on drag radials and better clutch, most seem to hit 1.8-1.9's easily on these tires so we will see but 60ft's will definetly kill ya

B/c Milan's track prep sucks. I pulled 2.32-2.5 60's w/ my LS1 w/ stock RS-A's. I manage low 1.7's in my IROC on BFG drag radials and easing into the throttle. Try a different track. I'm heading out to Norwalk a few times this year, no point in going to Milan if you are trying to get your best ET's. I had fun there the 3 times I went, but they just don't spray enough. Guys in our F-body club said Norwalk vs. Milan is like night and day.

Never been to Lapeer.
Also, not to discourage you in anyway or be a jerk, but I would think your MPH would be MUCH higher w/ a 232 cam and stage 2 heads. I know you have a stock intake, but my lid/catback 98 trapped 109 mph at Milan. Has your car been tuned? Did you notice any problems on the runs?

I'd say get at least an LS6 intake, a ported throttle body, and a higher flowing catback/cutout... that cam/heads combo wants to BREATHE. Also if you're running really rich after the headers, add the intake ported TB, and then get a tune with all those mods.
The track times are going to come down to traction... you need stickier tires (all the power in the world does you no good if you can't hook up), and of course with stickier tires you'll need a better drivetrain to handle it, especially with an M6. A 12 bolt or 9 inch is in your near future... also make sure you have good suspension & chassis mods to help you hook up (LCAs, LCA brackets, stiffer torque arm, rear sway bar, shocks/springs, etc.).
There's much more to going fast than raw power...

hey man dont feel discouraged. i have a 99 ss as well and i have long tubes, off rd y pipe, magnaflow cat back, tr 224/224 cam, stock heades, lid, filter, etc. however, i am not tuned in any way. not even hypertech or o2 simmulators. i have stock gears (342s) and the stock ls1 intake and my best time was a 12.84 @ 109.44 mph on bf goodrich drag radials with a 1.9 60ft. i am getting the ls6 intake and 410s next week and i am going back to the track to hopefully get a 12.50 untuned. my car has never been a dyno king and i guess the fact that i have not been tuned is whats killing me because i cant rev to 6600 rpm like my cam likes. i was dumping the clutch at 3500 rpm on that run and my burnouts were in first gear which is a mistake because the tires didnt even smoke. my last run i got a 12.85 but at 110.66 mph which is 1.2mph higher than the 12.84 run. however, my belt slipped off right before the end of the run which probably cost me my et not being lower. like i said ealier, if i get dyno tuned, ls6 intake, 410s, crank pulley, ported tb and i cant get a 12.1 12.2 then it will confirm what everybody says about the 98 99 models. that they are cows and i will sell it on the spot to get a 03 cobra and boost that thing to the max so i can get high elevens or mid elevens all day long.

v8maro-i go to lapeer track. and i could not hook there on nittos. on m&h racemasters i pull the front wheels off the ground. m&h musclecar drags size 305/40/16 on a lt1 rim. i knocked 5-tenths off my times going from nittos to the m&h tires. take alook www.intercotire.com. your 60 foots are so bad these tires will knock more then 5 tenths off your times. i'll be going to lapeer in about 5to6 weeks, maybe you would like to join us? we're all cool and you will have a good time with us. mike c.
