My 98 SS 4 month build thread
Ok, this isn't going to be a super detailed build thread like a lot of the
Build threads on here. I did everything so quickly and didn't really
Take a ton of pics as I was doing everything. But I'll try to give a
After the build rundown.
I've owned this car for about 10 years. It's a 1998 M6 SS.
At the beginning of the summer it was a full bolt on "BIG" New Era Performance
cam only setup.
With N2O. 100% stock suspension, stock heads, stock shortblock.
I started the summer thinking I was just going to do a rearend.
So I bought a strange S60 from Karl at Central racing parts.
I ended up going with a spool and 4:56 gears.
Then decided I needed some suspension cause the stock torque arm etc
Just wasn't going to cut it.
BMR chro-moly adj torque arm Lca's and panhard.

Then I decided the front end needed attention.
Got rid of all this heavy junk.
Got a bmr kmember for a manual rack.
So then I needed a manual rack..
So I went with a flaming river rack
Then of course I needed some shocks.
Strange single adj with 275# springs.

Pulled weight here and there.
Removed some weight in the front end..
Decided it was time to get rid of the AC.
Dropped ypipe and cat back along with my 1"3/4 hooker longtubes
To make room for my 1"7/8 American racing headers.

Wanted some more power, but still wanted to stay cam only.
Picked up a set of 243's and did a little valve job.
Then I got a fast 90
Oh yea, a mezeire water pump.

Redid all my N2O because the wiring was a mess.
I had a 255 walbro but with the added power one pump wasn't going
To cut it.
So I put two pumps in the tank and ran a -8an feed line and ran a -6an return.

I wanted to do the cage myself. My friend owns a metal fabrication shop
Where I also work sometimes, so I ordered a couple lengths of chro-moly.
We have a bender and a cope machine, so I figured that's all I needed.

I'm sure I've forgotten a bunch of things. It's been a lot of work in a few months
Especially while working 50-60 hours a week.
Lots of phone calls and advice from studderin Johnny.
All the work was done by myself and Ryan @ New Era.
Ryan is one of the best Ls mechanics out there and one of the only people
I'd let work on my car.
Of course all the tuning was done by Mike @ New Era..
Mike is straight up the best Tuner on the planet!!!
Been to the track to do a little testing.
Haven't had a solid pass yet. But I did go 126mph on motor with a
Half ***, spinning, bumping rev limiter pass.
Hopefully get out this weekend and get some good numbers.
