Default FMS/TEA Combo's Maiden Voyage @ the track

I wasn't gonna post this due to some nosy locals, but fugg it everybody knows now anyway

Hit the track Friday in street trim for some shakedown passes. Here's the #'s...

Best pass, 11.40 @ 123.6 ....... 1.74 60
Best MPH, 11.60 @ 124.5 ....... 1.83 60

Average ET/MPH was 11.40's @ 123-124. Passes were made on ET streets w/ 12 psi . 18-20 psi in the tires would have easily netted 1-2 more mph for a consistant 124-125 mph car. The 60's are horrible anyway. Track prepped sucked (as usual). Race weight was 3505

I'm pretty happy w/ the runs. This is in full street trim, in a lowered car w/ Auto X suspension. The car has 10's in it no problem. If I could have gotten a measily mid 1.60, the car would have went 11.1-11.2's. Maybe a softer suspension, set of welds, and a ***** to the wall launch would put a 10.90 on the board while still retaining the same race weight.

Motor was built by me, but HUGE thanks to Brian Tooley @ TEA and Alan @ Futral Motorsports for providing me the customer service and kick *** parts to make this combo.

That is all gentlemen

josh

I gain nothing going from 13 psi to 18 except worst 60's except at a very well prepped track, I wish I could easily pick up 1-2mph like that

Congrats on the numbers, looks like a good combo.

Back in the days of bolt ons, I would gain 1-2 mph going from 18 psi in the BFG's to 22-25 psi. Low tire pressure most definately hurts mph

Josh,

Congrats on the good times. I am sure the car has 10s in it.

You and all the Atlanta guys should plan a road trip down to Montgomery for one of the Seco Performance Heads-Up Sunday events. The track prep at MMP is usually good. Check out their web site for info. www.mmpdragracing.com

Yes but not one or two mph I ran 16psi at SDR at the GAFBA shootout and dropped to 11 since the car wasnt hooking and lost ~.3 mph. My car usually runs within .2mph if I dont let off bracket racing so its fairly consistant.

Try it next time - air is the cheapest thing you can put in the car, picking up 2mph would be awesome

lets not confuse the combos of auto cars and manual cars. lowering psi DOES hurt the mph if you are draging the tire with too much resistence. also no tire in the world will make up for poor track conditions which Josh (opps i mean Damian) had to deal with. def has 10.90s in it with a little tweaking here and there. VERY impressive runs for the first time out. et streets never worked well for me in a manual car. autos? lol, 20 psi hooks low 1.5s now.

mph is mph, auto or manual..

I think his car runs well, I'm not trying to imply anything else, I was at the same track I think so I know the prep isnt that awesome..

all I am saying is you wont pick up 2mph from adding four psi in ET streets on a 124mph car, unless you from flat to 4psi maybe

I'm just a drag racing newb so dont pay any attention to me..

Thumbs up

Good Times for a so-so track prep!

Get your 60' down in the low 1.6s and you'll have your 10sec. slip!!

mph is not mph when you are trying to compare autos with manuals. autos respond so badly to any loads. just go out there and try it out with an auto car and run 11-12 psi in the tires and check your mph. then go out and run 20 psi. i PROMISS you that it will be more than a few tenths of a mph. meanwhile manual cars like the t56 tranny dont get bogged down by resistence in the driveline. heck, there is barely any resistence in the tranny when compared to stalled trannys.

i have personally seen as much as a 5 mph gain on teh same day same track same combo when going from 14 to 20 psi.

I have seen a freinds stock a4 with a 100 shot run 11.6's on 26x10.5x16 et streets with mid 1.6 60's and put on 16 inch Nittos and still pull 1.6 60's and run 11.45 with mph going from 116 to 119 with the Nittos on because of less resistence.
I have gained 2 mph on Nittos over the 26x11.5x16 et streets when I had 4.10s but now with 4.30's it seems to make more mph on the et streets

Hi Sean

I'll leave this rest, sorry Damian, I was just trying to correct an incorrect statement. Or at least one I believe to be inaccurate after probably five thousand passes down the track over the last 25 years or so but I have been proven wrong.. I have been enlightened that wind and rolling resistance plus weight affect the mph of an auto or manual car differently - now I kick myself in the *** for not putting 5 more lbs of air in the tires so we could have ran 200mph in the 1/4 instead of 196

Good luck with your car

For the record-

There is no way in hell you are going to gain 1-2mph putting an extra 6-8 psi in the tires, let alone 'easily'.

Does anyone besides Damian, disagree with this?

This is one of the major reasons I don't give advise on this board, because no one listens.

I'll tell you what... bring your 476 rwhp monster to the street car chaos the night before
N vs S and get your wig split bymy 350rwhp cam only car.Put an extra 8 psi in the tires,ok?
