Default Cam only A4 help

Posted in Internal section also(didn't know which one I would get more help in).

First of all I have searched several times and found some good info., but not quite what I was wanting. I want a cam to put out great times(not worried about Dyno #'s) working with my TCI 3800 and 3.55 gears(staying with this combo for a 100 shot). I have been looking at some bigger cams like the TSP 231/237, R1 232/236, M2 228/234, T-Rex 242/248, but most of the people running them have 4400+stalls and 4.10+gears and thats not what I'm looking for. I have talked to several shops and they suggest thier own cams imagine that I have been looking at 224/224, 226/226, 228/228, and spits between those on Desktop Dyno and they don't seem to produce much different power between them. Only problem is it shows power, but you can't get a real idea what it will do at the track.
I need some help guys Please
Thanks, Richard

MTI recommends the X1 cam for street and strip. Futrells have several nice cams from f12 to f13==these have nice power for the size of the cam. These are suggestions. Cheers......................

Bain, I would go with a 224/.560ish lift cam for that setup. Almost all the sponsors have them in there grind. The duration will not help much IMO from a 224/228 in power and 570 lift and higher your 3.55s and smaller converter will not get all the benefits of the bigger cam and not to mention putting more wear on the vavle springs than you need to. My old B1 was worth around 3 tenths and 3 mph. I would look into the TR 224 and C1 cam on a 114 LSA. The X1 will need more gear and a bigger converter to really see a difference over the smaller cams.

comp xe 224/224 .563 114 cam here and love it.. other main bolt ons are SLP LT's, 3.23's, and vig3600.

I only pulled a 11.50 @ 117 outta this cam and im sure if I stuck with the cam only setup i mighta saw 11.3-4's from her without a doubt. Its a nice solid proven cam. Granted everyone these days want the biggest badest cam out.. i like the proven stuff and not a dyno number cam

in other words a nice 224 or 226 cam would be good for ya

Well you want to stay with the stock power band then. You will need a 115 to a 118 lsa so you do not bring the power up higher. This way you can keep you small stall and taller gears and still kick my *** at the track. You could look at the GT2-3 cam witch has the exsact power band as an ls1 but you will pick up good power and it will be good for the bottle sence it is a 207/220 cam. Do your research i know you will get the right cam to do the job. Look right now i have more power and the car weighs in at 3550 with me in the car and 3/4 tank and i am ever so slitly infront of you but i still have not beat you time.

Thanks for the help guys. One of my friends in MS has a Comp 222/228 on a 111lsa and is running 10.6's @ 129-130mph stock heads,LT's, cut out, TCI 3500, 3.23's, and a NX 150 shot. I was just wanting to stay ahead of him I was looking at Futral's 226/226, but everyone(shops) around Dallas want me to go with a bigger cam

The BIG cams are the thing now. Lets say you go with a cam like mine 230 dur. .570 lift then your looking at peek power of 6500-6600 rpms on a 113 LSA like mine so gears and a looser stall will be needed. If it were me and i was going with your setup i would get a TR 224 cam since it will peak around 6200 on a 112 LSA and 6400 on a 114 LSA. The 114 LSA will idle and drive better in a A4 but you can pull the power band down some to make it work with your setup by going to a 112 LSA.

I knew a guy that had a cam only setup with a Vig. 3200/3.73s/TR 220 cam that went 10.70s@125 on a dry kit. Your setup with a slightly bigger converter and cam should do better IMO.

Goober said it best. The cam for you would be the W1 from Speedtek my friend. It would fit your car to the Teeeee.

So you are saying that by going with a 112lsa over a 114lsa will bring the power band down? Please stop posting tech unless you know what you are talking about. Thanks

after seeing where my 231/237 dynoed id say go with a 224ish cam...you make close to the same power but at least you should have more low end. My tq doesnt even start to come on till 4000 and peaks at around 5000rpms so you really want a big stall to get it up there.

Yeah I thought that a 112 has a higher power band then a 114
