That will be one smokey cabin after a burnout. Gotta post up some more pics when the mini tubs are done. Love to see that 4 link set up too. Very nice work.

Sweet cage. I'm sure you are going to cover those meats in the back aren't you?

i am going to put aluminum sheet metal down in the back. there will be an eight gallon fuel cell and a two gallon fuel cell sunk down flush with the framerails in the back and the there will be two battery trays sunk in one on each side of the fuel cell. not really sure what we are expecting to run yet because we change our mind about the engine about every 5 minutes or so. our goal is a very low 8 sec. at this point.

The way the cage is at the time of the pictures is... the fastest you can go by NHRA/SFI specs is 8.50. The cage as it was in the pictures, will not cert for 25.5... 25.5 is "Full Bodied Car Stock or Modified/OEM Floorpan and Firewall with OEM Frame or Uni-Body Construction – 7.50 to 8.49 Seconds; 3,600 lbs. Maximum" and 25.4 is "Full Bodied Car Tube Chassis – 7.50 to 8.49 Seconds; 3,600 lbs. Maximum" both these certs require funny car cages and a few bars you dont seem to have but once again that was when you took the pictures and you may have done more at this point. If you plan on going below 8.50 at any point, I would get the SFI spec book for how fast you want to go and do it now, it will pay off in the long run!

that wont go into effect until 1-05 [as per our div hdqtr],if car gets certed now it will be granfarthered in and they,ll have 3yrs to decide what to do as car sits now they would have to change quite a bit under the floorpanns also for a 25-5 car .pg 14 of the sfi book bob

While this is true for now, from a safety stand point and possible cash outlay in the long term project, spending a little bit more time now, will make a big difference in the long run. I have crashed/rolled my old car at about 1000 feet and still tripped the lights at 8.40@164. I can say without hesitation, that my funny car cage and the rest of the cage being built over kill, allowed me to walk away without a scratch. If you are planning on going as fast as you plan, it your life, it’s the only one you get, don’t hesitate on making the car as safe as possible. SFI and NHRA are updating the certification specs for a reason; it’s a safety issue at this point for racers. The chassis certs as they are written now, were never intended for cars going as fast as the spec at the weights of the cars that they are going at now. Hence why they were re-written only allowing cars below the 7.50 mark to be at a max weight of 3200#.

Once again, its totally up to you on what you do. Racers always want to go faster and faster. If you stick with it, one way or another you will have to comply with the new cert.

Good luck

i agree with you we build our cars with some overkill in them also, and if someone wants to go that fast they should build there cars accordingly, its the nitrious, tubo, cars that are now making these times and mph, possible and much easier to attain with heavier cars, and now NHRA had to step up and say these cages like you said are not enough for this wieght,et and mph. alls i was saying is they need more than just a funny car cage and a few bars to meet the 25-5 spec and they need to make that disision on whether or not their going to run that fast and if so than they need to look in the book like you,and i said and see the floor work that needs to be done, and that they have 3 yrs to see if they can or want to try and go that fast, even though it is easier than it ever was its still alot of workand expense to run 7.50s in a 3200 and up lb car, also looking at picts of back of car i.e. x brace and down bars they look mig welded in pic they wouldnt be able to get cert anyway if thats so car has to be chrome moly, those pics are small but those weld look like mig cant reall make pic bigger to see, hopefully they put a chrome moly cage in , bob

Yup... thats so true.. I am just finishing the cage work on my car that is 100% complete "stock floored" f-body that is cert'd 25.2 (good to 6.0 @ 3200#) and what a mess it is to do this with the floor intac.. but it can be done. I know the car will never go in the 6's nor ever see the 7's @ 3400# with a stock suspension and a radial tire but i can always dream.

the welds are mig and the cage is mild steel, it is our first cage install so we went with the mild steel to help keep the expense down. it is our first attempt at a full blown drag car so if 8.5 is the most we can get certs for that is ok (for now). the plans are to go with a 408 ironblock LS1 motor with Stage 3 LS6 heads cam to be determined but probably something like a 246/254 .615/.615 lift 112LSA and a direct port N2O system back with a TH400 or a powerglide.
