Default Will a steeper gear reduce my mph?

Hi guys. I'm making some changes this winter from a 3.89 gear on 26" tires to a 4.30 gear and 28's. I'm a m6 and a 9" with 460rwhp na spinning out of the hole with a best 60' of 1.71, eighth mile time of 7.4-7.8 depending on how bad I spin. My mph is 92-95 in the eighth mile. Ls7 clutch. Hopefully spraying a 50-100 shot next year also. My question is, should I expect my mph to drop and et to drop assuming I'm hooking better out of the hole or can I assume my mph will stay the same? I need to know this to help determine what gears to select. 4.30 or 4.56

From what I've seen mph stays fairly consistant as long as you aren't spinning much or not pulling a monster 60ft

I'm definitely expecting my 60' to go down into the 1.6's or even 1.5's. I figure with the steeper gear and what should be way better traction, I've got the power to cut some high 1.5's I hope. As long as my clutch holds together that is. This will be a test of how strong it is.

How much heavier are the 28's? That may slow you down a tad.

I'm not sure. I'm gonna be purchasing some 15x10 race Stars to replace my 16" firebird wheels that the drag radials are on so hopefully it's a wash. While we're on that topic, my 60' and mph were actually better on a Hoosier 255/50/16 dot drag radial compared to a 26" quick time pro bias ply. I expected the mph increase but not the better 60'. And it was massive wheel hop too.

Have you played with the fbody gear calculator website?

From what I figure, I need 4.30's to put me in my power band and leave a little room for when I eventually spray. Also, I run 1/8 mile mostly so I gotta make sure I've got room to top out third without having to shift to 4th in the eighth mile. However, the car is more of a street car than strip car so I was looking for the fun factor of 4.56's on the street. That's why I'm torn. Don't wanna regret only going to 4.30's

I would run the 28 with the 3.89 gear you have.

Why? To cross the line at 6800, I'd have to be going 110-112 in the eighth and 146 in the quarter. No way is a 100 shot gonna gain me that much mph.

1/8 mile your thinking right , you want to be maxxed out in 3rd at the traps- but you will have too much gear for 1/4 if you should ever do that on a 100 shot with anything over 4.11 IMO unless your running a tall tire, then 430 may max you out in 4th.

I am thinking 430's on a short tire for 1/8 in 3rd gear and tall tire for 1/4 but you might be pinging the limiter on a 100 shot...
