First runs with my new 2002 Z28
Yesterday I hit 500 miles and barried the gas peddle for the very first time. I babied her for the first 500 and she didn't see anything above 4500 and that was only for passing.
So, I got home and changed my oil and put my set of BFG DRs on my stock '99 5 star wheels. Everything else was bone stock. I didn't want to put any wear on my street tires and plus I will always be running with DRs or MT ET streets anyway. So, this would be a good base run.
The car: 2002 A4 Z28 Stripper. Removed Spare and Jack. 1/4 tank of gas. 530 miles.
The conditions:
30.18 Barom.
47% humid.
69 degrees
about 400 ft above sea level (can't remember)
The runs:
13.57 @ 103.36 mph
13.44 @ 104.07 mph
13.58 @ 102.84 mph
I didn't spin on any of the runs and I had my BFGs at 18 psi. I probably could have had them much higher and still not spin.
On the first run the car shifted fine...slow, but fine.
The second run the car shifted at 5600 from 1st to 2nd, then 6100 from 2nd to 3rd.
The last run the car hit the rev limiter on both shifts.
I was hoping for 13.2s considering I have a stripper, the weather was good, and I was using DRs. But considering those three passes were the very first times I had ever really got on the car, I guess it isn't too bad. On the way home it seemed it was accelerating much harder already. Well, I have my base run now it's time to mod the hell out of her.

Derrick,
I have a 2002 Pewter M6. I ran it at the track the 1st time with 300 mile on her.(I have never babied my Hot Rod) Best time was a 13.22.
From what I have read on this site the harder you drive the thing the faster it will go.
Great times for the 1st time out.
Lots of Luck.

When I first got my '02 A4 WS6 and got about 760 miles on it, I took it to Houston Raceway Park. 70°, 41% humidity and about 30.3 on the barometer. Completely bone stock. With a 2.04 60' it ran a 13.41 and 103.76 mph.

Nice times! I went 13.3`s @ 105 with my stripper Z this week. Like you, I was hoping for 13.2`s with front sway bar and muffler off but those GS-C`s were not having it.

Great looking times.
When I first ran mine at HRP it had a lid and went 13.19@104.53 with a 1.970 60ft, stock GS-Cs, '02 Pewter stripper Z, A4. 2000mi on it at the time.
You're right there man, it'll only get better.

Re: First runs with my new 2002 Z28
I'm a big proponent of running the **** out of my car. I think if you start beating on your car, while staying on top of oil and tranny fluid, it will go faster sooner.
Just an opinion though

Put on direct-flo lid and Borla wide open already. Feels like I picked up some power but only the drag strip will tell. Also have ASP crank pulley, FLP headers, BMR PHR and LCAs, Weld Pro Stars with MT ETs on back and Kumhos up front. Should have all this on within the next 6 weeks. By the end of the summer I'll have a PT4400.

Re: First runs with my new 2002 Z28
Sounds like you're well on your way! Make that 4400 your first mod. Incredible difference. Don't concentrate too hard on the suspension mods for now. I ran 11.14 last year with a 100% stock suspension. Make the suspension mods your last ones. Just my opinion.

Re: First runs with my new 2002 Z28
Weather sucked today but I wanted to see if my new mods would drop my ETs. Since last Wednesday I have added a Direct-Flo Lid, FRA and Borla w/ 2.75" plate.
Again, I ran with BFG DRs and spare and jack removed. This time I had 3/8 tank of gas and a new fram oil filter. 996 miles.
The conditions: 79 degrees, 72% humid, 29.89 Barom.
The runs: (All 60-foots were between 2.01 and 2.04)
13.30 @ 105.46 mph...(G-tech said: 13.23 @ 110.8)
13.20 @ 105.82 mph ...(G-tech said: 13.13 @ 111.4)
Took an hour break and made another couple runs.
13.31 @ 105.21 mph
13.32 @ 104.74 mph
The weather was getting more humid and the wait was getting longer causing my engine temp to rise. Both probably caused the slower times.
One more hour break then one last run.
13.44 @ 103.91 mph
Yuk, time to call it a night. Got home and checked the conditions: 74 degrees, 82% humid, 29.87 Barom. Dew point 68 degrees. Storms are coming.
Anyways, considering the weather sucked, I was surprised the PewterZ ran any faster at all. It improved .24 and 1.8 mph. I'd like to get corrected times for both tonight and last Wednesday to see approximately how much the mods helped. I'll have to find an ET calculator.
Also, the G-tech is very accurate. It was .07 too fast on BOTH runs and it was 5.4 and 5.6 mph too fast. It showed the same type of accuracy on my '99 Z28. I can use it to test future mods on the street...on a long, wide, secluded road with no traffic of course.

Re: First runs with my new 2002 Z28
You will probably pick up some MPH over time as your engine gets fully broken in. I understand that the LS1 can pick up as much as 10 RWHP over the first 10,000 due to break-in.
On my '99 Z28, I went from 297.0 to 316.7 RWHP with the Borla (middle plate) and direct flo lid w/K&N. Almost 20 RWHP! You should expect about the same I would guess.

Re: First runs with my new 2002 Z28
From what I have read on this site the harder you drive the thing the faster it will go.
I have to agree with this.
I never gave her any time and ran 12.9 with just a random tech exhaust with my 2000.

Anyone know when would be a good time to change the tranny fluid for the first time?
