Default Memphis F-Body.org results (new cam only best)

I just got back from attending the Memphis F-Body.org event held at Memphis Motorsport Park last week. I was real anxious to run my car since I changed quite a few things since last time I was at the track.

Here are the changes from last time out:

- Thunder 230/224 111 lsa cam
- 15x10 Prostars
- 28x10x15 Hoosier Drags w/ tubes
- 4.56 gears
- BMR torque arm
- rebuilt T56
- new prototype Mcleod Rev-Lok II clutch setup

The weather was a little better than expected, but temps were still in the upper 80s/low 90s, with track temps hitting over 100 degrees. Needless to say, the weather wasn't the best. Regardless, I was very excited to be racing again.

The track was prepped fairly well at the beginning of the event, but it went away as the days went on.

Here are a few of my best slips:

60' ... 1.598
330' ... 4.736
1/8 ... 7.346
MPH ... 94.47
1000' ... 9.592
1/4 ... 11.482
MPH ... 115.50

60' ... 1.625
330' ... 4.733
1/8 ... 7.342
MPH ... 94.43
1000' ... 9.590
1/4 ... 11.484
MPH ... 115.13

60' ... 1.640
330' ... 4.758
1/8 ... 7.365
MPH ... 94.75
1000' ... 9.600
1/4 ... 11.481
MPH ... 115.92

Here is a video of the 11.482 pass:
11.48 video

I also made it to the Elite 8, where the 8 fastest cars of the event raced heads-up on a pro-tree. I made it to the semi-finals (sorry Angie ), but lost to Steve Devillier @ Performance SS w/ his heads/cam/n20 LT1 Trans Am (11.23 to my 11.56). Steve ended up winning the entire event in the next race. Congrats Steve!

A new best in much worse air is always a good thing. Density Altitude on those runs ranged from 2400'- 2800'. The runs in my sig were in -1500' DA. I was also able to weigh my car finally. Raceweight was 3425 and 3.5 gallons of gas.

The 28" Hoosiers are AWESOME!! My 60' ranged from 1.59-1.64 most of the event. I still need to dial in the suspension a little more, as I want low/mid 1.5s. I think a little more power/weight reduction will help as the car actually bogs on a 5500 clutch dumps. I do need to clearance my fenders a little more since when I got home I noticed they are still rubbing on the rear bumper facia. Oh well, I'll take care of that this week. Only problem with this wheel/tire combo is that they are heavy! 44lbs per side, compared to 34lb with my old 15x8 and 26x10x15 ET Drag (no tubes).

The clutch setup is holding extremely well. I made over 25 passes in the 3 days and the clutch is still grabbing just as it was on the first pass.

I'm hoping to head back to the track in a week or so before I add the next round of mods.

Jason

That is awesome Jason! Sounds like you guys had a great time up there. Those are awesome times considering the weather you were running in. Let me know when you are heading back to the track.

Janson those are awesome times. Those are incredible times for a 6 spd. I know that car must be tunned to the hilt for such good times in hot weather. I don't know if you remember, but I met you at Thunderracing a year or so ago and you gave me a ride back to the hotel. Thunderacing was installing my FLP headers (blue navy 99 SS) and other goodies. I remember you drop that 6 spd in second and I believe that was the fastest I have ever been in an F-body at the time. I did not know that were such a good driver. I am hoping one day to get my car down into the mid elevens on my auto--and I hope I can. Anyway, congratulations on your outstanding times and outstanding finish in the race. I wish the best of luck. Kent.

Hey Kent, I do remember you. I remember after I dropped you off you said that had sold you on a cam. I'm glad your car is doing well.

Tuning does make a big difference. I'm still on my orginal tune from the TR224 cam. I think there might be a few hp/tq left in it as it sits. Just need to find some time to dyno it. You should thinking about getting yours tuned as well, especially with a wide-band O2.

Hey Allan, the car did have a few MPHs in the 117 range, but most of them were in the 115-116 range. I think most of it went away with the weather. Last time I raced (and was running 120-121) was when Gordon and I went to NPR. The density altitude was -1500'. This week in Memphis, the DA' was between 2400'-2800'. The rule of thumb is 1 tenth/1 mph per ~1000' of DA. So, this is a good 3-4mph there. Almost everyone's mph was off by that much.

I also think the wheel/tire combo was hurting on the top end. The 28"/4.56 has less effective gearing compared to the 26"/4:30 setup. Plus, the added 10lbs per wheel and rubbing the rear bumper isn't helping. The tires were a great mod though. The car is 60'ing a whole lot better. I don't mind adding weight to help the 60'.

I'm not worried about the MPH in the least. With some cooler air and fixing a few problems (rubbing bumper, raising shiftpoints/revlimiter,etc) the car will be running even faster.

Jason

Even my slow car was off 2-3mph on every run.

Usually just 2 mph.

Allan,

If you can't say anything good keep quiet. Why do you insist on trying to trash talk everything we do either on the internet or by word of mouth here locally. We don't go around trash talking you so I would appreciate it if you would grow up and do the same.

WOW Geoffery, were did you get me asking what happened to his MPH bashing your business really business like for you to say that, but that is how you are.

I could really care less about what you do,seems like YOU are the one that needs to grow up I REALLY could go off on you and talk the truth, but since Iam a sponsor, that would not be business like.So make any smutty comment you want.

So I will just see you on NOV 2nd

Congrats again Jason.

And its easy to use comebacks on a messageboard to make yourself look good when you make false accusations around town. I say you just show up on Nov 2nd and do all the talk with a timeslip. Baton Rouge has plenty of business for both shops and the Thunder cars aren't even close to the slowest around. To each his own and I don't see either shop going out of business soon. Maybe the competition is putting a little more heat on someone than expected and this is the only way he can keep his pride.
