Default Unbiased Cam Testing?

Would it be possible (or anyone interested) on this site to pool enough resources to test some cams. I would love to see the differences in the same car with each of the popular cams. Of course the cams could be sent back to the rightful owner or sold whatever may be the case.

Even I would be willing to go through the hassle of the cam swaps and pony up 2 cams myself.

Just a thought???

The School of Automotive Machinists in Houston is currently doing this on their engine dyno (not an inconsistent chassis dyno). Split durations, single patterns, reverse splits, advanced retarded, you name it. The results are to be published in a national magazine, but you'll hear the results here first.

J. I have 2 perfect cams laying around for some testing. Both are new in the box. 1st one is a comp Extreme grind. .576 lift,230 @.050 on a 113 with +2 ground in. The other is a XE-R .58? lift, 226@.050 on a 112 with +4 built in. If you pay shipping both ways, have at it.

Patrick:

When will the results be out?

Y2KBlackbird:

That's what I like to hear! Have you tried these cams yet? That first one is nearly identical to Terrys 229. I'll drop them in and dyno/track test them all. I'll get a reverse split to test out as well. I'll drop you an email and we can talk about it.

Now does anybody else have any they would care to donate for some brief testing?

The SAM is doing this on a stock 346 LS1. The testing will be done sometime in later July. The results will be published in Hot Rod Magazine. Should be very cool.

Default Re: Unbiased Cam Testing?

I haven't tried any cams yet. I'm still internally stock. I would like to see how those cams work in a 346 with good heads and support equipment. I'm honing in my suspension. Getting ready to install a BMR extreme T/A, Billingsly adjustable lowers and a BMR rear bar. Once I'm happy with the suspension, I'm going to run a 100-150 shot of tnt and then do the cam/head swap. I have all the parts, just dont have the dang spare time anymore and I like to do my own work whenever possible. That leaves me to blame if its not right. I'll send you the cams if you want to try them.

Is S.A.M. doing this on a stock 346cid engine, or one with ported heads, bigger valves, etc... That will make a difference as to which cams really shine.
