Default 6speed. 497 rwhp. 4.10s. What size tire?

i need to get some rims and tires and am leaning towards the 28x10.5x15 ET Drag slicks. Any ideas?

What backspacing for the 15x10" weld pro stars?
spacer? Caliper grinding? thanks

Moose, I'm not sure but I think he said 4.10's in the topic . If you're going all motor I'd stay with 26 inch tires. I should be right around the rwhp when my 388 is done, I'm going with a 26"/4.30 gear setup in my 12 bolt. It also depends of what toruq you are making, if you're doing nitrous you'[re probably making a lot more torque than hp in which case I'd go with the 28 slick. BTW, where in OC do you live and what is your setup? Take care. ~Tony

DOHHHHHH!!! LOL my fault

Lets see,, I run a 27" tire with 4.30 and I trap about 125-126 range.. (440hp range)

So lets say you are going to run 130 +.. I'd say go with the 28" tire.. car should 60ft better with the taller tire, and really give you enough up top..

also the backspacing is 7.5 for 15 x 10 rim.. And plenty of grinding unless you get the bogarts..

Should be a fun ride..

thanks for the suggestions. Would you guys use a 8inch rim or the 10inch.I like the idea of a little stability being a 6 speed.
tony-im in costa mesa. who is building your 388?

15x10 Pro Stars, 7.5 backspacing, no spacers, 28x10.5x15 Hoosier slicks at 15 psi:

http://www.pbase.com/image/5269912

I'd go with my combo I can go 1.47-1.51 at 15psi cold and it's stable all the way down the track.

I made 471rwhp last time but have not raced since then...

Pro Stock John- did you have to trim the bumper at all for the 28s? how much grinding is needed for the 7.5 backspacing with no spacer. thanks

I did have to trim the rear a little bit but the rearend was farther back on the passenger side...

If you have a TA you might need to try the following... drill a small hole in the rear bumper cover where you can't see it, and run a wire thru a gromet and tie the rear bumper back a bit so you don't end up doing any cutting.

Or even try adjustable LCA's and move the rearend forward a 1/2 inch.

The grinding is significant but doable. Let me put it this way, my calipers are completely smooth now.

Moose, keep in mind that your car is pretty light and you race at Cecil which is one of the best tracks in the country as far as -DA and track prep. I would say if he's full weight or around there he should be trapping around 125-128 mph. Nineball trapped 128 mph with his 434 with 527rwhp, he's also a full weight M6 car . The only reason I'd go with 28's is for the larger contact patch for traction, gearing wise you will be fine with 26" tires; if you shift at 6800 rpms you'll be good to about 130 mph in the 1/4. With 28" tires you'll be ending the quarter mile too low (around 6200rpms)IMO. I actually work in Costa Mesa, right across the street from South Coast Plaza. Andy's Auto Performance in Monrovia is building the big bore 388; it's an LS6 block, Stage III 6.0 heads, 236/238 .610/.610 111 lsa cam, and Grot 1 7/8" headers.

Cool, lord knows we need all the traction we can get with our carppy California tracks. BTW what setup are you running (all motor, nitrous, FI?) and where did you get it from, MMS?

I've tried them all, and for what its worth I think 26" Hoosiers are the way to go. I ran 28s for a while and they didn't hook any better for me, looked like crap, and made the car loose on the top end. The Hoosiers hook about the same as ET Drags, but feel a lot tighter @ 125+mph.

hey terry. mike said i should run the 28s because i will run out of gear with the 26" slicks. i was looking at the hoosier 27" qtp. the car sounds awesome with the new setup.

So the new dyno numbers are 497? I was hoping you'd wind up around 515rw or so. What is your red line and I'll check the numbers on gearing vs. tire. I know Mike likes 28's but I've just never had any luck with them. You're welcome to borrow my Hoosier 26's to give them a go before you buy. When are you racing next?

yeah. the numbers seem to be lower than i expected too. redline is 6800. 6spd 4.10s
they cant figure out whats wrong with my clutch so i have to wait till monday to send them the car again to get another clutch put in. im worried about running out of gear with the 26" tires. What about a gear change?

With 26" hoosiers @ a 6800-6900rpm rev limit you'll be able to hit 132mph. I'd go that route! 10" draglight rims for sure. Skinnies in the front will also help a bit. The 27" QTPs are OK but don't hook as well. Down the road when you upgrade rear ends switch to 3.90 gears.

Next time I see the car I'll help you get more power out of it. Was that through the exhaust or cutouts?

Cool, I'll be at C-Bad this Saturday with some of my buddies with Andy's cars there (MicahOWNSS and TITAN), sans my car of course What color is your T/A I'll look for it. BTW I hope you still don't have stock rear, I broke mine after 14 launches on Et Drags with my 4.10's
I concur with Terry though that 26"x10.5x16 Hoosiers would be the best route, go the extra step and get tubes and rim screws too; I have them, they seem to help with the shock of an M6 launch
