Default Interesting insite about how the mustangers feel about LS1's in general.

One of the guys over on DFWstangs started a thread about my car after seeing it at the track. This thread gets me thinking about how we view ourselves as LS1 owners, VS how the Mustangs guys view us. I have a lot of friends over on that board that respect a cool car no matter what the brand, but there are some that don't think the LS1 will ever amount to anything. If you are feeling high and mighty just go browse some of the topics, and you will see that our veiw of our selves does'nt match thier view of us.

BTW, I am not talking about brand loyalty. I'm talking about us building a drag race series that is up to snuff like NMRA.

In the end, the Ford guys will respect what the LS1 has accomplished. Like it took the 5.0 boys awhile to get their racing series started, the same will happen to us.

If you are not part of the solution, then you are part of the problem.

Some of the responses are cool, some are lame...

I'm not sure why some of those guys expect you to be that fast except for the wheelie bar. Probably some of the 5.0 guys who are bagging on you are swinging from the nuts of faster Mustang guys as if those guys hang out with Job Spetter or Murillo.

Sean email me ur # foo.

Highness/mightiness is relative; it depends on what you're comparing yourself to. I seriously doubt if a single soul on this board or any LS1 owner anywhere thinks his or her car is the fastest in the world. Their (referring to the main culprits on Sean's little board, and many "Ford guys" in the area) perception of us is skewed because they don't take the time to find out what our opinions of ourselves and them really are. They see a couple of posts on the internet, or even a couple of real-life examples and generalize us all into one big pot, and think they know the mindset of us as a collective body of car owners.* I consider that their problem. Me personally, I have many friends who drive Fords/Mustangs, and in general I see more snobby attitudes coming from "Ford guys" than I do "GM guys." I think a lot of it is that some of these Ford owners are distraught that they are losing to LS1's on the street and at the track, so they have to point out the fact that the fastest "Ford guy" is much faster than the fastest "GM guy" or "LS1 guy" to try and raise their self-esteem up a bit.* Bottom line, I take the time to get to know each individual "Ford guy" I come across, and don't generalize them all into one big group. Give us 5 more years of aftermarket product development while halting theirs, and ample time to get a big, nationwide racing hoopla or two started, then we'll talk.

Anyway, I'm rambling, so I'll do everyone a favor and shut up.

* In the instance that someone tries to accuse me of generalizing, and thus being a hypocrite, this symbol indicates a statement that is NOT a generalization, even though it may look like it at first glance.

302minusafewbraincells is a clown man!

It's sad to see chevy guys who dont know what they are talking about making stupid claims but seeing a ford guy who seems to know something making stupid claims is even worse.

Whta a clown.

Good luck Sean. You've got a badass looking car. Give those stangs something to drop their jaw about.

There are some decent posts there, I think that there are just a few haters out there, but then again, if you mention a 5.0 on this site you'll find alot of haters here too

I don't care what brand it is, If it's fast, I wanna be able to beat it ;-)

Job Spetter doesnt care what kind of car it is, as long as it runs. (For a while he had a WRX until the rod launched out the side of it) He's helped me a ton with the tuning on my 1980 Malibu's DFI system, (Along with Shannon Renfro & Scott Cruise) Most of the Fast guys dont care if its a ford, GM, Buick..or whatever..they only look at how it runs..and if its Safe. I think brand loyalty is dependant upon your background (what you grew up with) and how much $$$ you have in your pocket.
I grew up on GM cars...so thats where my loyalty lies...even if its cheaper to build something else.

I think it's neat to get another groups perspective every once in a while. I think we as car guys love cars period, no matter the brand as long as it shows that the owner put some effort into it. It is funny how we as a group are dead set on the fact that the vehicles that we choose to modify are superior to everybody else's. Sure the mustangs have a better raceing program, but our cars are better.......right? I guess it's all relative to what you like, there is no superior vehicle only a more dedicated owner. BTW, Talon thanks for the compliment I'll take em any way I can get em.

Alan....asterick or not, you did generalize/stereotype, and essentially said that your generalizations/conclusions were ok or correct, but theres were not. You even tried to rationalize why.

And I did take more than one glance. Believe me....it is no big deal to me AT ALL, I just thought I'd point that out as your '*' kind of caught my attention.

FWIW, I read perhaps 2 or 3 total posts on that thread. Same ole jibberish, different day. Some things never change and likely never will - regardless of what brand of car is owned.

Bob, I'm disappointed in you. In the first *'d statement the pronoun "they" refers to the same thing the possessive pronoun "their" refers to in the sentence beforehand. And I clearly pointed out what that "antecedent" was:

quote:
Originally posted by RAGEman:
Their (referring to the main culprits on Sean's little board, and many "Ford guys" in the area) perception of us...

As you can see, I was referring to a few, not all. I don't consider that a generalization. I consider a generalization to be when you include people within a group that they don't really belong in. At the very least, it's not one that groups the entire body of Ford owners into one group. It is an observation I have made from information I have gathered about some of the characters on the other board and some of the Ford owners I am personally associated with. So there!

And then, in the second *'d statement, I was again referring to "some of these Ford owners," not all.

To some people, this may not seem like it really matters, but to me it does because I hate being stereotyped, so I try not to do it to others. So, please let me know if you still feel that I have done so. Thank you for taking the time to point out your thoughts. I know you're a cool guy and don't fall into my little sub-group, so don't worry about it!

BTW, when are you coming to Texas? And yes, I have asked you that before.

I think you're just like the typical F-body owner.

Don't know when I'm coming to Texas. There is an NMRA race this year in Dallas (May 30 - Jun 01), but unfortunately, work is going to prevent me from running the series this year.
