Default GET MY CAR INTO THE 12s

I have a 2000 6sp z and was wondering what I have to do to get it in the 12s I was reading all the stuff on cams but cant get anything out of it. I mean like tsp228r. I am used to like comp and crane companies like that. anything will help. right now i am running 11.45 @95 in the 1000 foot with a 2.1 60foot. this is my first 6sp car so i am not use to the line much yet. like to do this with cam and bolt ons only.
no superchargers or anything like that

clutch
LT headers
gear
sticky tires
weight reduction
LID
FTRA
ASP crank pulley

that will get you EASY 12's bolt on

and with a good driver and weight reduction a shot at 11's stock internally...

LARRY01Z28 runs 11.6's in the 1/4th with weight reduction and just bolt ons(no cam/heads)

Some things that helped my car a lot was the suspension. Lower control arms, relocation brackets, frame connectors and torque arm. You having a six speed I think you will see more improvement than I did. Add a Fast Toys ram air, a good air lid, k&n filter, cat back and drag radials and I think you might be there. I don't know if your money will be well spent on a cam untill you have lt headers. I am not an expert I just know what I have read and what my add ons did for my car! WOW!!

I did it with just bolt on's, no cam.
All you need is:
Ram Air
Lid
K&N
Fernco coupler
Hooker LT's and ORY-pipe
Cutout
Cut a 2.0x 60' time in good weather conditions

98TAauto hit the nail on the head!
Clutch
Lid and Filter
Sticky tires!!!!
and most importantly practice on the line i.e no spinning.

You should easily be high 12s

I have the same year as you. With a cutout and Nittos I ran a 12.90 at 108. Those were my only mods. I got a 1.92 short time with a 4grand clutch dump.

If you are looking to go quicker with a cam, dont expect much with stock gears. Stock gears like cams that make lowend torque to get us out of the hole. 224 would be the most duration stock gears will tolerate. Long tubes headers will help a lot because they add torque. Long tubes with a 224 duration cam ground on a 112lsa would be your best bet.

I have a lid and free ram air mod, drag radials, muffler only (vortex), and a 160 thermostat(not particularly benificial). I ran a 13.10 with a 2.14 60 ft. with a M6. All I need is a set of headers and I'm in the 12's. You shouldn't need a cam. Just practice with the M6.

One of the best investments would be a good set of
4:10's.

Check my mods. I got there with only free mods, a lid, a cut out and a few minor things.

I went 12.55 @ 111 with just bolt ons. At the time of the run. My mods were. Removed Ram air baffles, Sealed Ram air, MTI lid, MTI TB, SLP 85mm MAF, MAF Translater, Grotyohann Headers, Custom 3" Off road Y, 3.5" Exhaust.
On average it goes 12.8s-12.9s due to bad 60ft's. I still run stock tires, and suspenion. Traction is a problem. Good luck on your ride. That first 12 second pass feels great

I'm not sure where to put this thread. External Engine or Drag racing.

How about we put it in the Drag Racing section and as you have questions about different things then search first (most or all of your answers are already here) and then if need be, ask in the appropriate section (example, gears or clutch would be drivetrain, free mods would be external engine, camshaft would be internal engine.)

I have went 13.30 with a bone stock 2000z on only my 2nd time on the track in 6years. So 12's aren't that far off with seat time and little to no mods.

Got a 13.06 @170mph with SLP lid, ported MAF, and a flowmaster muffler (not catback). Just hollowed the cats and did the TB bypass so hopefully that will get me over the edge.

All it took for me was longtubes, a catback, lid, FTRA, MAF, 160-degree thermostat, HPP3, free mods, and shifter. Stock tires (235/55/16 Eagle GA's), stock gears in the stock rear and stock clutch. 12.75 @ 113.98 (2.084)

With the addition of a pulley, the removal of the restrictor plate in my Borla, and a better prepped track, I managed a 12.30 @ 114.85 (1.959).

With the addition of Nittos, a short belt, and some more break-in miles (still on stock gears in the stock rear w/ stock clutch), I pulled a 12.04 @ 115.80 (1.824).

With the removal of 300 lbs. of weight, and the addition of ET Streets and skinnies, and an improvement in air quality (still on stock gears in the stock rear w/stock clutch), I went 11.699 @ 119.04 (1.772).

With another improvement in air quality with a 5-10 MPH tailwind (still on stock gears in the stock rear w/stock clutch), I managed an 11.56 @ 121.13 (1.709).

With the addition of a spooled, 4.56-geared 9", the switch to a lighter, and hopefully higher-flowing true dual exhaust, 28" ET Drags, along with some other minor tweaks, I'm looking at low 11.3's or high 11.2's. After a little more weight reduction, who knows?

Hope this helps. FWIW, there have been claims of 12's with bone stock LS1's on street tires.

I ran 12.84 @ 111 with an SLP air lid, SLP CAI, ZO6 clutch from MTI, and a Corsa exaust.
This was done on true radials: 245 Goodyear GSC's
2.0 60'
This is about $1200 worth of stuff new. A Y-pipe will help a lot too.

My car went 12.50 @ 113 mph with 410's, lid, FTRA, LCA, Borla and drag radials. With a M6 the biggest reduction of your ET comes with you, the driver. Go to the track and practice your launch. Once you get that down your times will really drop.
