Aftermarket Gauges w/ stock PCM?
Hey Guys,
I want to make a custom gauge cluster in the stock location. I have done a search and saw alot of you have done this already.
Couple of questions.
1. Can this be done with the stock PCM? Or will it only work with an aftermarket (Accell,FAST,BigStuff)? I have a feeling it won't be a problem but I am not sure
2. SES light. I would like to retain an SES light. I am pretty sure I have seen a Bench tuning Harness that had a SES light, so I figure it could be done in the car as well. Anyone else done this?
Thanks!!!!!!
Brad

I would imagine you could. I threw my stock ECM away and am running a standalone FAST. Tach signal comes from the MSD, speedo from the pickup in the tailshaft of my 400, boost, FP, oil pressure/temp and water temp all come from the normal locations. Still working on getting a fuel level gauge to work since I don't have a pickup in the tank anymore.

Yeah, I figure it won't be a problem. Just wanted to see if someone knew otherwise. Doesn't autometer make a sender that you could make to fit in the tank?
Will the 0-90ohm gauge work with the stock sender from a 99+ plastic tank?
Thanks!

i've been working on the fuel level gauge for a couple weeks too. i called Auto Meter 3 days ago and ended up giving my # for them to call back when they can figure it out. so far, nothing yet. something tells me i'm not going to hear from them again. i've talked to APE, Nasty, A/M, FLP and more. nobody knows what can be done because GM changed the resistance in the sender and it doesn't match anything they've got out. i've even contemplated putting in another tank like a Mustang one if it will fit just to be able to have one. i can't go without it and feel comfortable driving it anywhere. any input would be great. getting desperate for ideas, even stupid ones!

Well Dave, here is a suggestion. I am assuming you are not running a stock in-tank style pump. Will the sender from an older metal tank drop in there?
I have read before that the sender(from the metal tank) is close to the same ohmage and it will work with the Autometer GM Gauge.

Got Some Info
You can run with no gauge cluster at all.
SES light---- red connector, pin 46, brn/wht
the pcm grounds that wire to set off the light
Send power to a light then ground to that wire. Too easy!
