Default How much HP does it take to gain 1 tenth...already going mid-9's.

3200# race weight w/ me in it
car runs 9.4's @ 141-142 now N/A

How much HP do I need to add to break into the 8's? I'm thinking a 200hp fogger will get me 8.90's @ 150+. Also debating keeping it NA and upgrading heads/cam along with some weight reduction to reach the 8's. Don't know if that's feasible though if it's going to take 150+hp to do it all motor.

I know on slow(er) cars in the 11+ sec. range, about every 10hp = .1 in the 1/4 and 1 mph. Obviously this doesn't apply the faster you are.

What do you guys think?

Thanks!

I think nines all motor is far more impressive than eights on nitrous.

Very true...and more reliable at that. But if I have to spend 10k on the motor I have now to do it, then 2-3k on a fogger is looking pretty good to me.

I used "Jimmy's ET Calculator" which I really happen to like and think it's quite accurate. It came up with you needing at least 110 more rwhp to break 8's.

I don't subscribe to the more impressive NA vs power adder timeslip racing. You run a number, more power to ya... but that's just me

A note on my comment about the additional 110 rwhp. That is the average hp gain across the power band you'll need, not just peak.

John, tell me your average hp and best 60'. If you can give me your best timeslip breakdown that will make it even more accurate.

Here's a link. Big thanks to Jose (JZ 97 SS 1500) who originally posted this. Note that it asks for average HP, not peak.

one tenth will take about 30 more HP running 9.4's at 3400 lbs and about 130 more HP to run an 8.99 according to my Moroso Speed calculator.
