Default Rim Screws on Weld Aluma-Stars?

Anyone here running the rear Weld Aluma-Star wheels? I was about to drill the rim screw holes on mine this weekend, when I realized that there was hardly any flat lip area on them. How in the hell do we install rim screws if there is no lip to drill? The screw heads wouldn't even fit within the flat part.

Anyone put screws on this type of rim before? The lips on the regular Pro-Stars are huge by comparison.

They probably want you to buy their bead locks. Just guessing.

I think my Magnums should have the same lip and we did what Madman said just put them in at an angle.

Yep, Magnums and Alumastars are the exact same shell. They have a shallow lip on them. Just punch the screws in at a 45 degree angle. The biggest biotch of a time is getting the tire to seat good enough to get the screw in it right. When you push into the corner of the bead like that you can actually unseat it slightly and get a slow leak in the wheel, moreso than others.

Beadlocks are way cool. Easy to change the tires and they help with some other issues. These are the only good shots I have on hand with a 15x10 on a 5" bs with the beadlocks on Harlan's car. It's something that Weld can do to an already purchased rim. The tough part is whether or not you feel that the cost is justified. For me it was simple, none of this is really justified so spend it if you've got it.

But why stop there. Beadlock and backhalf it. Bling factor multiplies by about a billion.

Shepperd Race Cars beadlocks wheels for a good price. They did our Alumistars and they came out great. 2 week turnaround too!

Shoot me a PM with their contact info. Drilling the screws at an angle kinda sucks and will look like crap.

Here's what screws look like on a Magnum. It's the only good shot that I could dig up of them.

i have alumastars on the rear of my stang. like the other said...do it at an angle with the tip being in the crease. it may not be 45deg. drill it so that the head of the screw will sit evenly on both surfaces when screwed all the way in. lift the tire from the bead? NO. just have 20psi in them while screwing them in and its all good. my rim screws look very good in mine. i think bead locks are over kill unless you have a 7sec car.

if the flash would work on my damn camera id walk out to the garage and snap a couple pics. grrrrr

A drilled rim can always be bead locked later.

Interesting, I've never seen anyone stagger them like that before. Seems logical though to do so.

You won't be able to stagger them very easily on the Weld rims though. Not enough vertical meat on the edge to go in from the side like that.
