Default Dana 60 ?

Anyone have any experience with the Dana 60 that Strange is selling. From what I have read it is suppose to be stronger than a 9" with less horsepower loss.

I have read that this Strange Dana 60 has been redesigned for a lighter weight, but I still would think its rather heavy. The center section is bigger so thats less clearence in the rear. There seems to be a problem with the clearance of the rear sway bar and the torque arm mount as well. I don't see any reason to run a Dana 60 in an fbody. Hell hardly anyone runs the Dana 60s anymore. The 9in is all the rear end most anyone needs.. Even cars running low 6's in the 1/4 with 2-3000hp are running 9in rear ends.. so whats the point in a Dana 60?

the 9 inch is a WEAK housing, where the 60 is fairly beefy.

i heard thru the grape vine a 60 will be coming out for our cars. I might make the switch (from 9 inch to S60)

they don't break housings, they bend and flex BIGTIME which causes other problems. (axles twisting, but even worse, it makes tuning the suspension a living hell)

thats what the back brace is for.. but, I still never hear of this happening.. maybe in really high hp cars this 'flexing' could happen, but not in your average fbody race car with 400-800hp...

Only time I have seen 9" stuff break, other than a posi go out, has been folks breaking cast center sections that are used. Like one guy I know broke a cast center section in a high 10 second car. I think the center section was from a truck and for all I know it was 20 years old.

Dana 60 stuff look interesting, I look forward to hearing more about how they fit and weigh.

I've been running the same 9" since 2000. I have only burned up a used posi in it. My 31 spline stuff is coming out, and we'll see how it's done for the past 4-6 years. I''ll check the axles for twisting.

it is probly more common on a 4-link car. maybe Madman can come in and tell us how it is on the 3 link cars

No, I'll just have them measured for twisting.

The S60 is very interesting. Basically same weight as a 9", 10" ring gear vs 9", 35spline standard, better pinion angle=less DT loss, true trac, 3/4chnl abs standard, supposedly no clearance issues at all. ONLY thing that is hindering my purchase of one is the current gear selection. Us turbo guys need some broad gearing that will load the turbo and I think the lowest they offer is a 3.73. I need a 3.23 or smaller.
