Default Stiff sidewall vs Regular sidewall

I am currently running a Goodyear 30" X 10.5" X 15" stiff sidewall tire. The tire weighs about 4 lbs. or so heavier than the regular sidewall.

Do I really need to be carrying this added rotating mass? They seem to be a little more stable going down the track but it's really not that much of a differance.

I chose them over the regular sidewall because I was crushing the tire at launch but the stiff sidewall crushes too.

What are some of you guys running?

I allways thought the stiff sidewall tires were for a manual trans car?

I am running a MT 28x10.5s. The only other slick I have run to compare is a QTP 26x11.5x15. The MT is a 28 rather then the 26 QTP and the MT stiff wall is way more stable on the big end. I was told stiff tire would 60's better for an m6, but I have no comparison of that.

m/t says any car that is over 3000lbs should run the stiff side wall, thats what i run and they work great..... but once they get worn out the sidewall crushes way to much

The stiff sidewall will keep the front end down more, and last longer.
Sidewalls will be shot long before you run out of tread.

I agree. Much better luck and more consistent 60 foots on the stiff sidewalls.

Tom is getting a stocker tire eh?

Yes

Off topic but, what year is your Nova? My brother just bought a 73 Nova in mint condition. Looks identical to yours color and all. It was sitting in a guys garage for 15 years. It only has 60,000 miles on it and looks to have never been driven in the rain or snow. It is really clean.

The Nova is a 1970 model, although 1973-74 models is very similar. Swap out the big bumpers, and the front grille area/tail panel is different. Otherwise, very similar shape and parts used.

I run the stiffs. I tried the regular sidewalls wouldn't hook my car. The stiffs on my car was the reight decision. I love em!

On Stock Eliminator cars the radials are usually a tenth or so quicker than bias-ply tires.
