Please tell me why it cost more to get a roll bar put in than it does to buy it? I bought a Jegs 8 point roll bar and i havent gone anywhere to get a price to b e put in but everyone on the forums said it is a $100 per point. WHY SO MUCH? I need a cage to run a nd till its in I cant run. So I need it in soon. Im in south florida so if anyone knows a place that will do it farley cheap, hook me up.

buying the bar is easy, its just prebent steel. You are essentially just buying the material. Welding is what takes all the time, skilled welding labor isn't really cheap.

Yep agreed. Plus you live in south Florida, welcome to higher cost of living and that includes labor! It sucks that it costs, but something you have to do if you want to race and do it safely!

I'm getting my wolf 6pt chromoly welded in for 250. But its a friend that has a gas powered miller on his truck. And I will have it all prepped for him. I also got the bars jig notched. That saves a lot of time.

You get what you pay for with stuff like this. A rollcage is not something to skimp on - besides the fact that your life may depend on it, it is going to be a permanant part of your car, so it makes sense to do it right. I paid a lot of money for mine, and it was worth every penny!

As far as installation charges, the 100 dollars a point is a general rule of thumb to help in quoting out the cage jobs. They range between 100 and 200 for most shops and the cost sometimes includes material so double check that you are getting material and labor or just labor. It typically takes several hours to bend a custom cage from scratch, notch it and tack it in. From there it takes several more hours to get everything finish welded in with the tig. The welds end up looking way better even on mild steel.

For those that are curious, there are some pretty nice engine powered welders out now days. The new miller Trailblazer can MIG, TIG, and stick. It also has a large generator for other power tools also. So the guy could be bring over a tig welder. Ya never know.
