Default 60fts with street tires. What ones hook best?

I went from cutting 2.0 60ft with 275/40 17 Dayton Daytona ZRs to 2.3 with
295/35 18 Kumho MXs

I thought the Kumhos would be sticky with their 220 tread wear compared to the Daytons with their 300 tw but first time out with them I couldn't hook at all.

Is this because 18s just don't hook? or do Kumho MXs suck? or is it cuz the MXs are new?

Any thoughts on this and what street tires are people cutting decent 60s with?

I wanna be able to run an 18" street tire on the street but still cut a 60 1.8-2.0 at the track.

Cutting good 60's is not solely on the tire ... a big part is track prep and suspension setup. One track I go to preps pretty good and my 2001 Camaro SS has a factory suspension. On those Dayton Daytona (275/40/17) I have cut manu 1.84 60'. Mind you I do not have nitrous or serious mods that would get those results. All I have is Hooker LT & ORYP, Lid, 3.73s and a B&M 3000 converter. My old Kumho Supra Extas used to cut 1.95s.

I was @ Infineon Raceway on wednesday nite which is notorius for having virtually no track prep on their wednesday nite bracket races. That is were I was running the brand new Kumho MXs.

The 2.0 60ft I got was at Las Vegas at their Midnight Madness event. It was right after a NHRA Import National event so I know that track had some VHT down.

Basically I am just disapointed with how these tires are performing given that they are softer than the last ones I had but cutting a worse 60ft and I just wanted to get some alternative suggestions from others on what street tire yall have had luck with.

I know track prep and teqnique have a lot to do with it though so I am not trhowing in the towel on these yet, just looking for others results with simmilar sized street tires.

I cut 1.9's on BFG KDW2's, stock clutch, stock lca, phb, tq arm. I had the car lowered with eibachs and no lca relocation brackets so id say that is pretty decent considering.

I read alot of reviews about tires and stats on tirerack before I bought tires. There are some tires with low treadware ratings with soft rubber that suck, thats not a direct indication of how its going to hook. Go to tire rack put in your size and compare their dry traction rating. They put the tires on the same few cars and run them on a track to get their ratings.

I used to run many 1.8x's on some Sumitomos. They were 275/40/17 but that's about all I remember. They were literally the cheapest 17" I could find anywhere! I think if I had gone to a decent track (unlike Atlanta Dragway) and played with the suspension a little I could have easily ran consistent 1.7x's on them. Great tire for me.

on factory suspension i used cooper street tires with a treadwear of 380 and still turned a 1.970 60 ft. But it really is on how well the track was prepped

I cut 2.0's all day on 245/50 Fuzion ZRs before stall. A few weeks ago I cut multiple 1.8s on these tires with my Fuddle 3600 2.5 STR, not too bad in my opinion for cheap tires.
