Default Question about the cage in a car I might buy...

So I have my eye on this Z28 that I want to buy. I love the whole car- the way it looks, the way its set up, the parts used, etc... I'm only hesistant about one part of the car- the roll bar or cage or whatever you want to call it. Maybe I'm just being paranoid because I know nothing about cages and I've just never seen one in an f-body like this. But you all know your ****, so you can tell me what you think. I was told this was a bolt in, and then got welded. But what's bothering me is the rear bars- I've never seen this done on an f-body and I don't know if its okay or not. I know that this car has seen some passes and this is the second and possibly third owner(I'm unsure if the original owner or the second owner did this) thats had this car with this cage like this. I'm not looking for thoughts on the looks, but more the safety factor or if this could fubar the whole car by tweaking the frame or something.

I believe that would be more of a road racing type roll bar.. Nothing wrong with it in my opinion and I definitely don't see the rear bars hurting anything.. You could always remove them and do a more traditional style rear bar for rather cheap... If thats the only thing bothering you about the car then don't let that stop you cause I don't think its anything to worry about at all...

Okay, its just that the car is a low/mid 11 second car right now and it has enough power to pull the wheels off the ground. I was worried having those bars there with that torque would hurt something, but I was probably just being paranoid. Probably just because I've never seen that.

or you could also just leave those in place and add more wherever you want them to be.

The bolt together rear bar would definitely get my attention...If it were a good tight well made joint and a grade 8 or better bolt with a lock nut I would probably let it through tech...providing that the rest of the Bar (and car) was good to go.

the more points it ties into the chassis the better,
stiffer is better

Thanks for all of the reassuring comments guys- I'm not really concerned with it being NHRA legal because it will probably only see a couple passes at the track. Thanks again!

I would want to know where they go before commenting.
They might be supporting something.
A cross is always stronger, but at your level they might be fine.
Never liked bolt together stuff for anything.
Good luck.
