Question Aftermarket Valve Covers & PCV setup question

Those of you with aftermarket valve covers and speed density...

How do you have your PCV system setup?

I currently have this on raised stock valve covers:
Metco on oil fill hole
Catch can from passenger side valve cover to TB
Breather on driver's side valve cover where PCV valve used to be

I am thinking of switching to this setup with aftermarket valve covers:
Breather on Oil fill hole
Get LS6 valley cover
Catch can between valley cover and TB

What do you think would be the optimal setup? The car is not a daily driver, and is tuned in speed density.

Thanks,
Wes

Wes,

If your car was tuned in speed density with your current breather setup, I would tread lightly when you make changes. If you are still allowing PCV flow into the intake and are running open breathers, the PCM is expecting a given amount of airflow. Since you don't have mass air, it has no way of knowing when you make a change other than O2 sensor readings and idle speed fluctuations.

Good call, Shane.

Do you have any ideas on a setup?

You can completely delete the PCV system and run old school breathers on both valve covers (may require a slight re-tune especially for idle) or as long as you keep the same crosssectional area open, ex. PCV inlet on the intake, you can run any breather setup you want. In the case of keeping a PCV I would still run a catch can.

i have the pcv deleted on my motor, with an an fitting welded to each valve cover and running both in a -8 line into a catch can/tank. later going to a vaccum pump setup, but this is fine for now.

Weld those fittings on to your exhaust and run a hose from the valve cover to the header. They work actually really well. Not as good as a vacuum pump but really close to it.

Cool. I am still going to run a line from an Ls6 valley cover to the TB.

So it seems as long as the system's not completely closed off, you should be fine?

Thanks guys.

Its still the same. I might have been online or something.

Once my valve covers get here, we're going to see what this motor puts down. It sounds pretty mean with no mufflers.
